Had to look it up. Well the shape of the bud is similar (if it was made up of a bunch of little flowers)
and I can see where the leaves might collect water at the base.

me too! I've been meaning to go out and draw some of the fall leaves, but I'm a wuss this year, and am enjoying the warmth of indoors.

Well, I brought some leaves and branches indoors, to enjoy the warmth with me.
That was about a week ago, still haven't referenced them. They seem to be patient models though.

hehehe, I live in a garden shed, and my poor shed becomes littered with pinecones, leaves, rocks and so forth as the weather becomes colder. But its soon to be Naked Tree Season, my favorite season artistically if I don't say so myself. I stare at enough trees, sketch, and stare some more, until I have enough in my memory to last me the year.

I've been neglecting my sketching too, I've hit this rut where I seem to be tired all the time, and the rest of the day is swallowed in things that I seem to "have to do" at that moment.
Yup, I do, its awesome!! My hubby and I were homeless last year, and my co-worker opened up the offer to let us room at her place. She had the garden shed available, and we took it. I adore the idea of tiny living, so we fit 2 people in 9.5x11, we renovated the loft area, so our bed is up out of the way of the front room. My art room is the laundry room at the main house. Someday we hope to build our own Tiny House, we don't own much, just what we need with room for a few extras

My sister has become a Little Obsessed with Tiny Houses as of late.
I don't see it happening for her, she's got 3 kids, a husband and tons of stuff.
I tend to travel light myself.
Glad you guys are homeful now.

Well, I embarrassingly moved back in with my folks, I haven't had steady work for a year.

That is SOO not embarrassing!! I lived with my folks after I thought I was independently on my own. In fact both of my siblings, who are adults have moved back in with mom. Times are hard, definitely not what I imagined for myself as a child. I'm unemployed right now, as is my husband, so I'm trying very hard to get art up that I can sell. And selling has never been my strong suite, I'm more of a creator.

I'm horrible at self promotion, trying to get better. Do you ever check the forum posts for job offers?
I just "applied" for a gig doing a book cover. It won't pay much if I get it, but it'll be good for my portfolio I guess.

I find the second anyone asks me to do anything, I block up. I worry about making it so they will like it, instead of just drawing what comes to me... I've got 1 and only 1 commission in my pocket and I can't seem to work on the conceptual design cause I try too hard.

Since I started hanging out on dA a couple months ago, I noticed
that in the back of my mind I'm always wondering if people will like my art.
I haven't had much of an audience for a long time. It's detrimental in a way
but maybe helps in another way if I ever wanna sell anything.
If someone commissioned you that should give you some confidence. They
picked you for a reason right? It's hard to figure out what people want.
I keep joining (and losing) these silly contests :]

To be honest my commission is... my brother 
I think of this time in which I also have no audience, as a time to be grateful for when I do have people that like my stuff, to remind me to never forget that it is each individual like, favorite and comment that kept me going. I believe that if you have a passion for something, someone else out there is seeking you. I think that is true for me, and true for you too. Keep doing what you love, and the right set of situations will seek you out.
