My perfect fairy mermaid seal (again lol)
Had fun with this one and painted backwards - blocked in the shadows then added in the colors, using the eraser tool to add in value.  Been drawing Primarina a lot lately, and this is my 3rd image of her this week (the other two can be seen here on my Tumblr: sammaloo.tumblr.com/post/15905… ).  Still have a few more planned of her, including turning her into a slime girl and create a new gijinka.

Total Time: 2 hours

Enjoy!

I just got Pokemon Sun this week and chose Popplio as my starter. Once I saw her becoming Primarina, I knew I had chosen well. She's my favorite, even if most trainers in Alola have a beef with her

I don't play the game (don't own any handhelds), but I know that she'll probably be my favorite Pokemon for a while

There's a lot of shadows here

Because (like I describe in the description~) I started with the shadows and worked by erasing the colors into them

Does this technique work better for you?

It's good for practicing digital painting.  I use just a Wacom Pro, so there's always this disconnect between my hand and eyes, so this technique helps connect them.  I'm trying to get my digital art skills where my traditional skills are, and a lot of the time I work with this technique in real life (i.e. laying down a lot of charcoal and using an eraser to draw).  Until I buy my Cintiq, this is my best way of practicing~

That sounds hard. I have a wacom tablet but i have no clue how to work it. so..........

Work it?  Or use it?  Because to work it all you need to do is plug it in via USB, download the driver, and use it in a supported art program~
As far as using it goes, I learned by experimenting/I'm self-taught.  Took me a few years, but I've got it down good enough for where I'm at right now.  It's pretty much like using a normal pencil, then you just start messing around with different brushes and such~

Wow i don't think i could get that good though. Also im just learning how to operate it. Download the driver now i need a art program. Don't know where though.

Photoshop is great, but their new program to buy it is total BS.  Corel, to be honest, confuses me lol.  Paint Tool Sai is a popular one and pretty cheap.  I don't use it, but I know a lot of people who do, and they say it's really easy to use.  A few of my students use that one.

Anything I can get for free?

Not that I know of, but if you're a college student you can get some pretty good discounts (that's how I got all my Adobe programs).  I wouldn't be surprised if there's some free ones, though.  Definitely search it up~
