I designed posters for 35 years before I retired as Publicist/Art Director for an arts program at a major university in California. It was pretty much a love-hate type of experience. I loved designing the posters, but I hated working with overbearing professors who were my clients for the most part. Don't get me wrong, I loved collaborating. However, many of my "clients" would literally stand behind me and have me go through my whole type foundry on my computer looking for the perfect type face, or would ask to change this or change that, "if you don't mind." And then there were the clients who would see the poster "in their head" and wanted me to create an exact replica. Now that I'm retired I find I like designing posters much more -- when the only person I have to please is myself.
