Description
This is a derivative of a previous post (see below). I hesitated to upload this work knowing that it is a controversial artwork -- yes, the photos in the background, are of Holocaust victims -- and might upset some people. That is not my intention and I apologize in advance if it does. My intension is to shine a light on a horrible despicable moment in history where millions of people were put to death because of their religious beliefs/how they identified themselves. Knowing that this atrocity was going on while the world was oblivious to it just blows my mind. Many people argue that while this was happening the U.S. government and governments of other countries did know and chose not to divulge the information to its citizens; and that the press also turned a blind-eye to it. Was it anti-Semitism at the highest levels of government and the press, or a joint decision by both not to upset its citizenry any further, after all there was a war to be won? Probably both. This artwork is an expression of the outrage I feel, and my hope that we will never forget this terrible time in our history, and be “asleep” if such evil ever lurks its head again.Photos: David Shankbone, CC BY-SA 3.0 via Wikimedia Commons
