Description
This is the colored version of Christburg I submitted awhile ago. I'm not too sure how I like it, especially around the eyes and hair, but it was one of my first attempts at coloring digitally.Hopefully I'll learn a few more tricks and whatnot for the next go. I think I just got sick of the line art by the time I was finished with this.

Beautiful, just beautiful. The armour is so historically accurate. I find so many artists who don’t know or just don’t want to, draw traditionally accurate armour designs. The traditional designs are by far the best in my opinion. I find medieval fantasy moving more and more away from medieval to just fantasy. It’s a refreshing joy to see such beautiful authenticity.

What amazes me is that you're saying that this is one of your first attempts at coloring digitally o_o God.
May I ask you what tools you use? You use Corel Painter? What kind of brushes and stuff? I really like how it looks like traditional art somehow, it doesn't look "plastic" at all, like sometimes digital paintings do.
And I like the green reflections on the right side, adds a nice touch.

I think it looks pretty good! I don't see why you're not satisfied with the hair... but then again, you are a lot better than I am. O_O

The armor is amazing - though I am more drawn to the top piece than to the bottom. The bottom seems to have a "dress" effect that seems to give him over-exaggerated hips. But that's just the way I'm viewing it, perhaps; or it could be the way that armor was in those days.
At any rate, the coloring on this was very nicely done. I like how you added depth and detail to his face by adding shadow instead of jagged edges along the chin and cheeks. The eyes, in my opinion, came out nicely because the expression really adds to the character.

Pretty cool there Ninebreaker, sorta reminds me alot of the Vagrant Story video game. Always loved the art in that game personally...

Yeah, actually, I took a lot from Mr. Yoshido's work for that game... I love the look and feel of Vagrant Story a lot myself ^_^

Ahhh... The drawing was done in class over the course of a week. The coloring took maybe another day of sitting at Starbucks with my laptop and a tablet ^_^

I was going to say that this reminds me a lot of another PlayStation game, Vagrant Story. (: Both the design and the line work.

I love the way you coloured this - it accentuates your art style in a way so this guy does seem rugged, or battleworn as someone else said. It makes it feel dusty and antique - and it reminds one more of the crusades that way, I think - with that whole old-timey feel.
I think you did fabulously on the armor, and the lighting and everything just looks great. D: I'm not so good at critiques like this, but your armor looks dingy and used - but cared for. So it adds more to the actual character, I think. The way you used your pencil to add in little details to the mottled feel worked out great. The muted colour choices really make it feel real.

Coloring technique is wonderful...He doesn't look like he's wearing fake armor at all (You know, shiny gold that looks like it's brand new, even after a battle)
