A part of me, maybe not quite as small a part as I would like, had been hoping that the rumors of the Virus outbreaks were true. They were in tiny villages in third world countries which were already plagued by disease, famine, and greed. Plus, this meant that people like me get to go in and kill the aftermath of one of these breakouts.
Allow me to introduce myself. Name's Ragnar Olneck, and I'm a Purifier. Haven't always been one. My job is to "purify" those who are unfortunate enough to have caught the Virus.
Rewind. Let's talk about something else for a minute. In late 2008 the government of the United States formed a small group of scientists dedicated to researching biological/chemical warfare. In short, this group of people was responsible for engineering new bacteria and viruses which could be used against political enemies. They were also supposed to find a cure to the diseases caused by these microorganisms for use of the citizens of the United States.
Remember Swine Flu? H1N1? Yeah, that was them. A small amount of one of their projects leaked into the Mexican public. This was just the weakest virus they had been working on; the worst was usually simply referred to as the Virus. Scientifically, the Virus causes a neural psychosis which puts the host into a coma, during which they have no control over their body. However, the muscles of the body still receive signals from the host brain, which are sent by the virus. Basically, the virus uses a host and creates a "shell" of a person, capable of locomotion and some motor skills but not in control of any actions. The Virus is also highly evolved in the way that it has found a way of intercommunication between hosts; there seems to be some kind of collective mind among victims of the Virus, similar to the collective mind of an ant or bee colony.
