Just to get it out of the way: yes, it is another closed species and yes I will need to get a ref of the species up on DA but for now this deviation will serve as it's ref lol QuQ after the formal information I'll write out the species info so you can scroll down and read that if you like XD.

this custom baby (well...young adult) is for she was so sweet that she gave me twice the amount for a regular custom so she earned herself a ref sheet as well as an icon which I promise to do later XD

These species belong to the world of 'Guardian Prophecy' and are part of the species which inhabit world 442
species (temporary) ref:

bio features:
they may seem like a regular dragonic-bird mix however Wicker-wings are a bit more special. Wicker -wings are bipedal and do not change their shape unless during a full or half moon. On a half moon they turn into Phoenixes while on a full moon they turn into foxes. Only elders can poses another living organism and this trait can only be passed down by blood relation to an elder with said ability. A male Wicker-wing's body is mainly cold while a female Wicker-wing's body is mainly internally hot as they must keep the eggs warm. Their feathers are coated with a certain oil which is resistant to flame and the feathers can harden and be used as a knife or sword in battle or shot out as a projectile. They are keen sniffers and are able to sense vibrations very well. Their legs are very strong and their talons can cut glass, minerals, stones and jems (see crafting). Their eyes can see in the dark but they are neither diurnal nor nocturnal. They are omivores. They can reach speeds of 60km/hr on land and up to 300km/hr in the air (yes they are pretty fast) however their speeds reduce as they grow older, mainly youngsters use their speed to get away from prey as they are not able to use their flames or feathers in combat. They live up to 1000 human years max (many can die earlier).
The flame:
The flame on their back comes from certain pores on their skin just above the spine and the flame is produced with a spark or brushing the feathers against each other. They prefer to keep the flame on and will rarely have it off as it is a source of pride and a good source of energy for their 'magic'. Males , When competing, dance around each other and try to suffocate the other's flame, leaving them in shame to leave. Newborns do not have the pores to develop a flame while elders are able to completely engulf themselves in the flame due to they multiple pores which develop along their bodies. The flame is considered sacred and holds magical properties. Other flames along the body are for decoration and can vary in colour from the 'birth flame'.
social life:
Wicker-wings live in clans of up to 40 members with alphas (the fittest male or female in the clan) and elders in command of the clan. Elders are highly respected and teach the youngsters all they need to know about survival, mothers feed and care for the children while fathers teach them to hunt and fight. Wicker-wings are a very kind open group however their trust should never be broken or their loyalty misused as they are know to carry out cruel revenges and hold grudges for generations. Mating does not occur often however when it does males must perform certain tasks to please the lady which they court and later duel each other to prove their worth. After a duel the female may decide which male she wishes to court with (whether it be the winner or the loser). A regular family consists of a mother figure and a father figure as well as two-three chicks. Larger families are excluded from the pack and left to their own devices. Families with only one child are encouraged to make another.
crafting:
Wicker-wings are skilled crafters and it has become a big part of their culture. They search for herbs, reeds, jewels, minerals and stones as well as other animal parts to create jewelry for one another. The symbols carved into the jewelry represent an attribute /characteristic which displays the wearer. Wicker-wings cannot make clothing so they exchange certain magical trinkets for the clothes. The higher quality the material for the craft, the more proficient it's magical usage is.
Markings:
each Wicker-wing's markings develop as they mature to adulthood and aid them in the use of magic. Their body markings are different than those which are used for magic. All markings are unique however tail and face markings represent certain ranks among the clan members.
Other facts:
- as a wicker-wing is about to die is will engulf itself in it's own flame and combust in a spectacular bright light. The ritual goes as follows: the dying wicker-wing will leave the clan after saying it's good-byes, it creates a reanimation circle, it will fly up into the sky and perform it's own last dance before bursting into flames and it's ashes will activate the reanimation circle and a new life from will grow (mainly a rare flower that only grows after a wicker-wing's death)or another dying creature will be brought back to life. Humans have tired to use wicker-wing circles to revive the dead for evil means which almost caused them to go extinct, however a war between the two species soon ended that practice as no one wishes to hold a grudge with a wicker-wing.
- in extreme cases a male can lay eggs and their body temperature will temporarily change to be warm for this purpose.
- wicker-wings can learn languages easily and almost instantly however without practice they will forget the languages they learn
- wicker-wings used to be messengers for certain ancient spirits which gave them the gift of the flame.
