I just love going to another artist's gallery and being inspired to create something of my own! This painting was inspired by zowiegranz.tumblr.com/ and her breathtaking stylized Szayel Aporro Grantz paintings! Of course my style is very different from hers but it led me to try something more surreal.

Despite loving As Nodt and Plague Doctor masks, I never considered drawing them in one picture until going to zowigranz's blog (she featured plague doctor masks in some of her drawings). Personally I think they go together very nicely!

Even though this is a simple painting, it was a bit of a pain to make. For those of you who do not know, my scanner is terrible so I take pictures of my drawings, load them onto the computer, and then digitally paint them. In the batch of pictures I took of this sketch, none of them looked good enough to paint on, so I had to combine two of them. Then against my better judgement, I used the subtraction method for the hair. It turned out nice but took forever. While working, I thought the drawing looked too empty so I added the spine later.

But it was all worth it in the end! I'm really enjoying drawing As Nodt without his mask!
