Ninjapocalypse is a project I started in 2012 on Tumblr as a way of doing something with all of the crazy ideas for characters I had. The concept was basically like it was the cartoon you didn't watch, the toys you didn't play with, the video game you never heard of. A weird and wonderful collection of characters to spark the imagination and get people thinking about who they are and how they fit into the larger universe. Each character illustration was accompanied by a short written description detailing their abilities and backstory, as well as how and why I came up with the idea, but it would largely be up to the viewer to imagine who are friends, who are enemies, and how do they fight.

My goal was to do at least 100 characters. The first 50 where completed rather quickly, but it was hard to keep up a decent pace for long, especially when I was back at school for Video Game art. Plus, in the later ones, I started putting more time and detail into some of the characters than I should have. But I kept at it, even saving doodles and concepts for a long time until I could get to them. In 2016, I finally finished the last 10 characters and felt satisfied enough to call it complete with 100. So, here they all are!

I can't really say that Ninjapocalypse ever became a success. There were never many views or comments. Long gaps between entries didn't help, and that's my fault and often couldn't be avoided. But I enjoyed working on the characters and I'm glad that I got through so many. Maybe they can get a second life here on DeviantArt.
