"Anything to drink, ma cherie?" Francis asked you as you settled down onto his red velvet couch.

"Sure," you said. "Anything's fine."

Francis returned after a moment, bearing two glasses of iced tea. You accepted yours gratefully, taking a careful sip. Delicious, as always. Everything Francis made tasted amazing. Even his tea from a bag seemed a little sweeter when he'd prepared it.

"Francis..." you murmured breathlessly. It was now or never. This was the best chance you'd have.

"Oui?"

"I love you," you whispered.

Francis stared at you, stunned. Just like you'd thought. You'd scared him off. Now you had completely lost any chance you had with him. But it was too late to second-guess yourself.

"I have for a long time. Ever since I saw you, I knew you were something special. But I realized that you were more than that, too. You're sweet and funny and know how to treat a girl right. You know how to be a friend, how to listen and offer advice, how to show people you care about them." Tears prickled in your eyes as you watched his expression of dazed shock remain unchanged while he listened. "I know you probably don't feel the same way, and that's okay. I just needed to tell you. Keeping it a secret was tearing me apart." Your voice trailed off, a steady decrescendo into silence.

"I'm sorry," you whispered.

How could you be so stupid? This wasn't going to help anything. All it was going to do was damage your relationship, and make him think lower of you. This must be incredibly awkward for him, having to flat-out reject you when you were like this. This was totally unfair of you.

After a moment, though, he spoke, his voice hoarse.

"_______...je n'ai pas de mots...;"

You felt your heart break at the words. You knew what they meant. It was over.

You stood from the couch, swaying a bit from dizziness. "I'm sorry," you repeated, your voice trembling, and spun around quickly to leave. Tears streamed unchecked down your face as you headed for the door, trying to keep in your sobs until you left the house.

"______, wait!"

Francis grabbed your wrist from behind. You turned, wincing at his expression when he saw your tears. He'd come after you...?

Wordlessly, he pulled you into a hug. Even now, when he knew he'd have to hurt you, reject you, he was concerned for you. You broke down, crying hard into his chest as he held you tightly.

You quieted, listening, shivering a bit as he toyed with your hair. Not that that was anything special; he was a touchy person.

But when he began to hum softly, your breath caught. Could I...could I have been wrong? you thought, hardly daring to even consider the possibility. That song...

Then he pulled away gently, and began to stroke your tears away with his thumb, while you just watched him silently. "Je n'ai pas de mots," he sang softly, smiling at you. "Nothing seems to say the way you move me...rushing through me..."

Your eyes widened.

"Je n'ai pas de mots...but a promise has been made you can believe this, from the first kiss..." Francis leaned in, touching his forehead to yours. You gasped quietly, and he smiled again before hovering his lips over yours. Is this a dream? you wondered, before he closed the distance and pressed his lips gently on yours.

It was like a million fireworks exploding in your head. So much energy filled you that you thought you'd burst, but you remained stationary, standing in front of him, kissing him. Even if this was a dream, you were happy just to have experienced this.

Just as the need for air pushed its way into your mind, he pulled away. "Ma cherie," he murmured, thumbing more tears from your eyes, "don't cry. Please don't cry."

Francis pulled you close to him again, and you wrapped your arms around him, burying your face in his shoulder. "Francis..." you said, voice still breaking with tears.

His lips touched your ear gently. "Je t'aime," he whispered.
