When I heard the new Pokémon Direct was going to be 14 minutes long, I didn't expect much aside from updates for spin-off games, Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, and Legends: Arceus. People said there was going to be a brand new Pokémon series announced. But I thought that they'd never happen yet given the time.

I was right about the updates for the current Pokémon titles. But right at the end of the presentation, it happened. The next Pokémon generation was announced.

Pokémon Scarlet Version and Pokémon Violet Version.

Personally, I believe these new titles look amazing! (Even more amazing than Legends.)

There weren't any new Pokémon outside of one's that we've seen before. But by the end of the trailer, three new Pokémon (the starter Pokémon of these games): Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. I chose to draw Sprigatito. (And, I'll choose it again once I get one of the games!)

Sprigatito is a cute looking Pokémon. I find it to be very charming. (Presumably because I have a thing for cats.) It also has a design that's easy for an artist to draw. (Especially if they're a kid!)

Even though we only have one official piece of artwork for it right now, I decided to put my artistic skills to work and draw Sprigatito in an original pose.

I was inspired by an area in Scarlet and Violet, the version colors themselves, and the Japanese opening for the first season of the Pokémon anime. I originally wanted a black background. But I found white fit the piece more.

There's supposed to be a huge 2022 in the background. But I guess Sprigatito's head blocks it a little. Hopefully, people can figure out what number it is.

I was going to post this earlier at 12PM. But I got my hands full with a few issues... I'm all free now though. Which means I have all the time in the world to focus on celebrating Pokémon Day!

Here's to a new generation of Pokémon! (And many more!)
