Lin Baolan hesitated as she stepped up to the altar. Although she was raised by religious parents, she often contemplated why she should pray. Praying to the divine never helped her situation, rather she changed her own fate. However, being around those who prayed as well as thinking of recent events; an idea formed in her head as she lit some incense with the decision to make a wish for others.
Baolan wished for protection. She prayed for the wellbeing of the many strangers who volunteered for this mission.
Placing a small bundle of xing ren bing (almond cookies), she bowed and left the temple wondering if her prayers even mattered.

Zhan Xiao Liang doesn't really practice any religion but hey, if the gods can really make stuff happen, why not? And if they can't? He'll just make what he wants happen himself, like usual. Give me a fun adventure!
Yan Zeng Zhen had been raised to believe in the gods, but after what had happened to him and his family, his faith had been shaken. Still, the gods were hardly going to show him better favor if he snubbed them. So he prayed for power, and he prayed to not be betrayed again.

Cui De lit the incense mechanically while his mind wandered to the temple back home. Closing his eyes and breathing in the scent, he could picture the colour of the wooden wall and almost feel the hardness of the cool floor. The family had gone regularly. Now, the thought seldom crossed his mind. He remembered quite clearly the last time he had prayed and asked the gods and ancestors for counsel… and this time it had not been as easy to formulate what he desired.
We have made it up the mountain and are grateful to safely make it down as well. Watch over us and grant us knowledge about these dragon sons when the time is right. Guide me to find teachers who will help me advance from here.
Placing the incense carefully with his left hand, he paused before holding his hands together and bowing towards the altar. Whether the spirits, souls of ancestors or gods heard his prayer, only time would show. He knew who had influenced his wish, but they were quickly gone from his mind as he rose with a slight tremble in his legs to leave.

Zhan Wusheng: After some internal debate, he decided to pay a visit to one of the closest temples. His mother was never deeply religious, but she taught Wusheng to respect the Gods. When he asked her if they really existed, she said -'Way to many things happen between the earth and the sky that we can't explain away with logic or reason. You don't need to call them Gods but... well, we have to call them something, don't we?'
He lit up the incense and placed a small pouch of coins in front of it. What could he wish for? Wusheng wondered if these so-called Gods could grant him the immortality he sought when he joined Han Lian. It seemed appropriate. Would they grant it to his brothers aswell? If forced to choose, he'd give the gift to them alone.
"I wish for immortality for my siblings and, if you so decide to be generous, for me. May they live forever and without the suffering they have endured during their short, yet tormented time here on this earth. May I be there with them, to protect and cherish them." He frowned... "In the meantime, may they be safe while I'm away." There, now it felt better.
He rose up to leave, and felt his stomach growling in protest.
"I should've wished for a warm meal instead... could've been a better use for those coins."

Su Mei would rather put faith within herself instead of an unknown higher being, but she saw no harm in paying respects in a temple. With incense in hand, she prayed for the future of the clan to be forever bright… and even stronger than ever.
Unlike the previous few trips up the temples, Yin Shi donned the outfit of his sister today. If he was going to pay his respects to the deities, might as well do it as someone who was closer to him. What would his sister pray for? ”May the Gods bless me to one day rejoin my brother again in the mortal world!”

Fang Ren Yao : Ren Yao finally made his way on the altar. His steps were silent, so silent that nobody notice his presence except the God above. He has some faith about God and has taught how to pray by the monk who taken care of him years ago. That's why he already prepared the offerings, which is a small pouch filled with some money that he had. Although he didn't have much money to offer, he was sure that God always look at one's true intention rather than what or how much they offer. Ren Yao took the incense and burned them before placing them on the gold chalice.
Silently bowed his head and clapped his hand, he started to focus his mind to the deity. When he reached that focus, he said his prayer in his heart. He was thankful for what he has until now and pray that in the future, he would finally find out what's going on with this world (the massacre), found the nine sons of the dragons, and let the peace rule over the world once again. In order to achieve that, he was hoping that he would meet a skillful blacksmith who could forge him a weapon (an image of a guandao suddenly appeared on his mind) and that his skill would greatly increase as he is now learning at Ye Shan. He end his pray after wishing his parents health and happiness.
The smell of burnt incense has somehow get stronger than it was before. Its smokes were ascending as if they sending the prayer to the God. Ren Yao believed that the God would hear those prayer. As silent as he entered the place, he left.

Rui Lan yu: The... not quite as long haired (he'd had somewhat of a fiery incident. Some might call it a miracle singed haired was the only trouble he had to contend with from that episode) man made his way to the shrine. He didn't really think of himself as a believer. If he didn't see things for himself there was always some doubt in it's existence. However magical or mystical the abilities of cultivators were they'd all started off human it would seem. Having a spark of talent to cultivate that was better then others didn't make anyone a God. And so he certainly had reservations about the existence of higher beings - even if supernatural creatures obviously existed. At most perhaps they were cultivators that had grown powerful beyond the scope of human measure.
Still, though he didn't believe in the supernatural, he was aware others were more spiritually inclined then he was. And so he went through the motions of lighting up the incense adding a whispered word of worship as he did so. No sense in being disrespectful it certainly wouldn't befit the part he played. But he made no wish because even Gods, should they by some chance exist, could not turn back time. And he certainly wouldn't let anyone take his revenge from him. Having completed the motions of the ritual, even leaving a small meat bun as an additional offering, he left. No sense remaining in an empty place.

Huo Da Xiu: Da Xiu approached one of the altars, kneeling before it in what he assumed may be customary. The other religions seemed to focus on flourish design, grandeur, art. All in the name and praise of a god and sometimes, gods that were all too foreign to him.
He bowed his head, wondering, questioning if anything out there was willing to offer some semblance of warmth or positive guidance. Or if he really was forsaken. That- what the elders called it- the hungry ghosts were too numerous and the misfortune would only continue. The man couldn’t help but wonder what he had or hadn’t done to have wrought the wrath of such spirits. Or why none of the protectors would help. In all honesty- he wasn’t sure what to believe anymore.
The sense of feeling lost had been present for a long while now. His hands clenched into fists, not caring that the newly bandaged right arm hurt from the action. “I have so many questions…and no answers. Only ideas. But those can only take me so far.” He heaved in a deep breath, thinking of the most recent events that had transpired. “If this is my path. All I ask is that no one else be harmed by it. No one….I care for. I just hope I have not been too late…”
He hesitated a moment before reaching into one of his belt pouches and procured a steam bun that had seen far better days, placing it in the offerings. “I do not know if you’re out there. If anything is. But it never hurts to try.” There was a pause as he kneeled there in silence for a period of time before finally getting up and taking his leave, feeling the same as he had when he had walked in.

Chenxiao doesn't believe in Gods, especially not the Gods that Ye Shan pray to, but the higher ups had told her to play nice and "indulge the Yeshan". Whatever that meant. She saunters up to the altar with a lamb skewer in her mouth, and places the other lamb skewer in her hands on the altar. (In it's paper wrapping, of course, not directly on the altar.) She wishes for the lamb skewer to become 3 lamb skewers before waiting a few seconds. After seeing that her single lamb skewer is still a single lamb skewer, she takes it back and slinks away. Of course Yeshan Gods were just phonies.

Ru Xu: Though born in a family that did pray to the gods above, Ru Xu only prayed whenever he was given the chance. He did not actively seek out any god's blessing nor did he do any sort of daily ritual or practise. During times like these though when the opportunity presented itself to him, Ru Xu chose to be diligent. Arriving at one of the smaller shrines, the cultivator lights the incense sticks, bowing down in solemnity before praying for whoever diety above to guide him towards a path worth taking; that he can find improvement in himself and that the gods protect him from future harm.

Lin Qiu Xia stops momentarily at one of the shrines. Praying isn't something they do, nor do they have time for typically, but they'll humour that Ye Shan secretary this time. Maybe some god will finally smile down on them and their faction.
So they light the incense, three sticks slowly wafting their special mixture through the vicinity, and shallowly bow to the structure in front of them.
Hey, whoever's there. I've got an agenda to push through, and I'd like it if you—and any enemies—stayed out of my way. Or, if you're willing to help a bit: ████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████."
With that done, they swiftly turn and leave the shrine, the only trace of their presence the burning incense.
Tang Hu Lu sets a full stick of, well, bing tang hu lu, at the temple they visit. It was a good offering, their favourite, and they hoped that'd appease the gods! Their parents taught them to respect the gods as they traveled through various villages so this time, they kneel, bow with their hands touching the floor. Surely the gods would hear their prayers in these trying times.
Through closed eyes and pressed-together hands, they pray that all of their friends and family—new found and old—will be safe, have good health and happiness. And maybe, if the gods be so kind, they'd get that lit mixtape going.
They accidentally forget their stick of bing tang hu lu when they leave, but that's okay! Maybe the gods will enjoy it instead.
