Description I was inspired to make this piece because Autumn's here and it's the Double Ninth day.

Original character based on the Four Symbols (四象) representing Summer (Suzaku). As what I have mentioned in one of my journal entries, I got into the Four Symbols addiction and couldn't stop drawing characters from the Chinese constellations- no, this is not a sign that I'm turning Watase Yuu here- I was just inspired by the manga and the drawing styles of the mangaka I follow; Takayama Shinobu and Kiyo QJo... so expect more Chinese constellations-based deviations from me soon.

Wet on dry technique (for the first time) and it was such a pain. I learned to be really patient on this one, since it took me around four days (two hours max per sitting, one sitting per day) to finish.

Yeah, I did notice that before scanning; but since it's already done, I cannot undo it (one of the cons of using traditional method). Thank you for still pointing it out. *is waiting for someone to comment about the hand* :d

Actually I'm pretty surprised that people assume that it's a 'she'. I made it a male, and even the reference is a male, but oh well, with many people mistaking it for a female, I myself have become confused.

I did it on paper, pencil and watercolor then scanned it and got the background cleaned for blots through CS4 and that's it. I'm still "saving up" for a tablet so digital is not yet an option.

Ohh I get it! A lot of work, right? haha.. I'm just learning (or rather, remembering!) How to use Photoshop CS4 to paint my drawings but I'm too slow .. haha And finally I'll say it again: You're a great artist

Yeah, it is. It will take a while before I shift to learning how to color my works through CS4 and since I really enjoy learning traditional water color techniques, I'd stick to it until I believe I'm ready for digital (which will be years from now). lol
