Don't forget Asher.

I feel bad for asher, although he's on my faves, he tries so hard for naught from Jeane claude and Anita. Do you think a devil May cry crossover with a Anita blake would be too strange? I can't really make up my mind.

I don't follow Devil May Cry (though I do know what it is), but I don't imagine the universes would line up together very well. Anita's universe is developed in a very certain way, ya know?

Well, I'm not reading Laurell's books right now anyway. Taking a hiatus while I try to find other modern fantasy writers that don't fail. Point being, I'm not the best person to ask right now, since I'm not to involved with either universe. XD

yeah I didnt think so either.

A good author to read is Jim Butcher, he writes wizard for Hire. Aka the Harry Dresden series.

First comic books I've ever collected. I'm hoping to get into more comic collecting depending upon what new work the original artist Brett Booth does. ^^

XD Hopefully his Frankenstein translated better to comic form.

I'm planning on watching some mass amounts of Linkara's video's. At least that way I can laugh at some bad comics, while I wait to find good ones. =3

why's that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NiranAroon In reply to TBRae [2009-06-04 00:30:08 +0000 UTC]

Well originally one of my favorite thins about the novel was how well it incorporated a balance between romance, magic, mystery, violence... all those elements. Something most modern fantasy books fail royally at. I can't remember how many books into the series I stopped reading, but it basically bothered me that Anita goes from chaste, to group orgies. Based on Laurell's other books, and the way she's written this one, I think its a fair say that the sex isn't going to lighten up much/at all, and I'm not interested in a story about the lead female fucking everyone.

In addition to that one of the things I loved about Anita was that she's a human competing with the big bad monsters of the night. I liked that she was an animator, and even a necromancer, but every book just piles more and more badassery onto her, and it looses a lot of the thrill.

I'm sure the most recent books are still awesome, but I just don't feel inclined to read them any more. Plus, Laurell was the only modern fantasy I'd read in a while, up until now, and I'm working on broadening that. Other things to be reading, ya know? ^^

XD That was probably a way bigger explanation than you wanted.

TBRae In reply to NiranAroon [2009-06-09 19:03:39 +0000 UTC]

its cool. I know that I sort of lost interest after a while, but the series does pick back up. so far, skin trade has hardly anything to with the sex.

I think the series is getting a bit long now, its like book seventeen or eighteen.

however, i read anything i can get my hands on sometimes, because i like to get lost in other people's words.

Maybe I'll get back into it in the future then, probably if I run out of other things to read. XD

Long indeed. I wouldn't mind seeing her write something new.

@.@ I don't think she ever will. Got my hopes up a few times though.

I haven't been reading the latest books in the series though.. I haven't decided if I'm going to continue reading or not.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SammiWolf In reply to NiranAroon [2008-09-19 03:57:40 +0000 UTC]

No, she can't because it would kill Anita and Jean-Claude. Ugh! But I swear he drags the books down! D:
Yeah, there were a couple of times I thought about quitting the series just because of him, but, I'm too hooked, so I stuck with it. I was so excited about the last one. Anita leaving with Jason. I thought "Hot damn! A book with no whiny ass Richard ruining everything with his damn self-pity!" She fooled my ass good with that one! He showed up. *dies* But, I have to admit, he wasn't as bad as he usually is. Not that I'll hold my breath that that means he's getting any better. That ain't gonna happen.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NiranAroon In reply to SammiWolf [2008-09-19 04:07:41 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'm not stopping because of Richard, as much as I do hate him. I'm fine with mature books, but I've felt like the relationship, and just plain sex has taken over the series. I really liked how the begining books were, and I know its impossible for Laurell to return to that, as things are. I also liked Anita better when she wasn't so powerful. What was great about the series was this amazing balance between violence, romance, and magic- this balance really got screwed over in the later books. Supposedly Micah and Jacobs books are a bit of a break from that, but I think I just can't push threw it all.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SammiWolf In reply to NiranAroon [2008-09-19 16:23:47 +0000 UTC]

Personally, I love the way the stories have progressed. They're leveling off now I think. Though, if Jean-Claude ever gives them that last mark, I think all their power is going to take another giant step up. Either way, I really think the progression is interesting.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NiranAroon In reply to SammiWolf [2008-09-19 21:28:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, my friend still reading the series says about the same. I think I just got stuck on a book where things are particularly bad, and I can't work my way threw it to get to the good stuff again.. though I still don't like the direction it's all taken right now. XP

Regardless, Anita Blake is my favorite books series, and Laurell is my favorite author.

Have you read any of the comics for it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SammiWolf In reply to NiranAroon [2008-09-19 21:59:44 +0000 UTC]

I get stuck when I reread at Obsidian Butterfly. XD I almost quit reading the series when I got to that one. I found it boring. Without the guys, it's not the same. Of course, not having Richard whining, feeling sorry for himself and generally making things difficult was a good thing. But, I'm glad I didn't give up and forced my way through that one book.

I've got most of Guilty Pleasures. We only have a tiny comic book store here where I live and the hours aren't so good. I was in night school last year, so I missed a lot of the issues. He never got very many copies, so I tended to miss my chance. But, I graduated this past summer, so I'm determined not to miss any of Circus Of The Damned! XD (Of course, if I start college this winter like I'm planning, the same trouble may come up again. lol)

NiranAroon In reply to SammiWolf [2008-09-20 09:40:51 +0000 UTC]

XD Obsidian Butterfly was one of my favorites- but I adore Edward, and Quetzalcoatl, so yeah. I got such a rush when Anita's heart kept stopping.

Awesome, you've probably got more than me. I'm still looking for #2.. need to take a second look at eBay. Missing a few others too. I can't wait for Circus of the Damned!

I need to find out if theres even a comic store near my college... I just started so I've only really located Borders, and Target. If there isn't (god forbid) I'll have to harass my mom into constantly checking the store down where she is for me.

SammiWolf In reply to NiranAroon [2008-09-20 17:25:10 +0000 UTC]

I don't have any problems with Edward, but it's just not an Anita book without at least one of her guys.

You can always order them online from Marvel. That's where I'm going to get the issues I missed.

NiranAroon In reply to SammiWolf [2008-09-20 20:37:34 +0000 UTC]

There was a great seen with Jean-Claude in the beginning, wasn't there? I don't quite remember... but I know what you mean, its rough having that usual romance pushed out. Seems like a break from it was needed at that point in the story though- for me, at least.

Good to know! I hadn't thought of that. Thank you. ^^

SammiWolf In reply to NiranAroon [2008-09-20 20:46:28 +0000 UTC]

It's been a while since I re-read the whole series and forced my way through that one, so I'm not sure. xD I think there was a short phone call. Not sure. Anyway, that early in the series it wasn't about the romance, it was about everyone trying to figure out how to get along, and how to adjust to all the changes that were coming way too fast. To me, without at least one of her guys, the book just didn't feel like it fit the series. It was like we were cruising along just fine, then someone slammed on the brakes and took a detour to the middle of nowhere and I was left scratching my head and confused. The plot itself was a pretty good one, it's just my cup of tea. But not for an Anita Blake book. It just didn't fit for me.

You're welcome. I might even just subscribe to the new comic now that you can so I don't have to worry about driving to town to get it once a month. (Save all that gas money. xD)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NiranAroon In reply to SammiWolf [2008-09-20 21:51:38 +0000 UTC]

There was a phone call with Edward, but if I'm not mixing books up, there was a pretty cute scene of Jean-Claude following Anita around while she tried to pack, and being generally adorable. They had a little cuddle, and he was sad loss she was ditching him.

Hey, if the detour is to Edward Land sign me up. But I know what you mean. Its sad not having the usual cast. Still, I really enjoyed the difference.

*thumbs up* Subscribing sounds like an excellent idea.

Ok, it was bugging me, so I had to go check. xD I went and pulled the book from my shelf and skimmed. It started with her at a zombie raising and Edward/Ted calling her and telling her what was up. Then the next chapter starts with her reaction to the Ted persona. No Jean-Claude. And now that I think about it, considering what happened after, he couldn't have had any contact with her before she left or he'd have told her not to go because of Damian. (Whom I ADORE! I really wish Laurell would give him more screen time. D: Dangit!) And now as I'm typing this, I remember how the guys shut her up when she was complaining about them not telling her about Damian by saying that they could have had she not been avoiding them. So, the guys weren't in the book.

NiranAroon In reply to SammiWolf [2008-09-20 22:56:35 +0000 UTC]

Than I WAS thinking of a part form one of the other books. XP Sorry. It's been a while since I read OB. Damian isn't one of my favorites, but I do love him. The way they tied him and Anita together was really intricate, and interesting. I love that way magic works in Laurell's books. =3

SammiWolf In reply to NiranAroon [2008-09-20 23:15:15 +0000 UTC]

It's been a while since I've re-read the series. I'm already planning on going back and reading them all over again as soon as I finish the book I'm reading now. Which'll probably be tonight or tomorrow. x:
I adore Damian. He's my favorite of the vampires, just barely edging out Jean-Claude and Asher, whom I also adore. Of course, of all her men, I'm torn between Damian and Nathaniel as my favorite. (Though the new more confident Nathaniel isn't as cute to me. :/ Maybe I just like wimpy men? lol)

NiranAroon In reply to SammiWolf [2008-09-20 23:23:42 +0000 UTC]

Asher, Edward, and Raoul are high up on my list of favorites- Jean-Claude not directly in there because he belongs entirely to Anita. My like for Nathaniel goes up and down.

NiranAroon In reply to SammiWolf [2008-09-21 03:40:39 +0000 UTC]

While I looove love love them in a threesome with Anita, I still consider Jean-Claude to be essentially Anita's. But good point.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SammiWolf In reply to NiranAroon [2008-09-21 16:30:00 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, you said you haven't read the more recent books. At the risk of ruining something, I have to make my point. xD Anita is learning to be ok with Jean-Claude and Asher together. So, you can't say he's only hers anymore.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NiranAroon In reply to SammiWolf [2008-09-22 01:07:44 +0000 UTC]

That was already happening in the last book I read, and I could tell it was going in that direction, anyway. Like I said, I know that, but I still consider Jean-Claude Anita's. Circumstances lead to sharing, but I think that Jean-Claude, as much as he loves Asher, considers Anita more a girlfriend than Asher a boyfriend.

All the better for me- Asher mine!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SammiWolf In reply to NiranAroon [2008-09-22 01:56:46 +0000 UTC]

You could be right. When it comes right down to it, Jean-Claude does so much just to make Anita happy, and no matter how much he may love Asher, he was fine with keeping his distance from him. In the end, with Jean-Claude it does seem to all come down to Anita.

Asher fangirl, eh? *grins* I really like Asher too. But, Damian's still my fave vampire! lol
