"please rachel... i have to let the fat girl inside me date chip... i never let her eat." monica from "friends"
i really love that quote. it tells so much about how hard it is to loose weight and to keep the lost pounds off your body...

Don't shoot me, but this would be a perfect image if the 'inner fat girl' text was gone. It's powerful on it's own.

This is quite simply breathtaking. The lighting, the contrast, the pose, the shadow, everything. Quite a statement.

This is a really well done piece. Great composition... It makes me so sad, though! It reminds me of how I used to be when every day I'd look in the mirror and hate myself. I was not thin or fat... "normal" I guess, but what I perceived myself as was massive. Crazy.
Anyhow, very nice work. I love it.

Well I'm glad you don't do that anymore, and glad you brought it up because that was one of the things I was really going for in this piece.. that self-loathing/skewed perception. Anyhow, thanks for the comment!

I like your use of noise (ie speckles) in this image. NICE extreme contrast. I like your use of lighting to really create an extreme shadow in this image. Interesting use of text. Very nicely done.

well actually, the shadow really was like that in the original photograph, as well as the graininess...I just gave it higher contrast

ah, great dialogue.. thoroughly entertaining film.. I fell in love with the girl who collected random trinkets.. Too bad she had to go and change the way she did. The photograph is great.. the shadows are nice and dramatic. The title is a little confusing.. Did you used to be overweight? or are you calling yourself a 'fat' person on the inside?

Nisroc In reply to FigoTheCat [2005-04-18 04:58:26 +0000 UTC]
Well, the point of the piece is that the shadow is supposed to be fat. Like the shadow of an obese person...an omen perhaps, or really a reflection of that qoute.. "there are two kinds of fat people: there's fat people that were born to be fat, and there's fat people that were once thin but became fat". No, I was never overweight, but I do think I'm fat in the teenage sense, mind you, and have a fear that I'll continue to grow bigger and wider like I have for the last 16 years of my life, really. Hmm..I was going to say something else, but I've forgotten...

bigger and wider in the sense that my body's stopped growing but my waist keeps going..I'm already well over the average BMI for my height.

You know, I would do a picture of myself like this, too, but, unfortunately, my mom views my work, so....
._.
It's awesome, though. I really hate it when people edit their photos to such a degree that they're no longer what they truly are... you know? Very nice, though it IS a little... odd seeing a friend standing in high heels, wearing nothing but undies, a belt, and their shirt, lol.

Nisroc In reply to Florence-Nightingale [2005-04-17 23:46:50 +0000 UTC]
I figure it's no different than taking a picture of yourself on a boating trip in your bathing suit, of course I would certainly hope that my parents don't see this either...
so, what do you think of the concept/execution? Does it look sexy chic, or just, well...fat.

Florence-Nightingale In reply to Nisroc [2005-04-18 00:18:05 +0000 UTC]
Actually, I find the more curvy, voluptuous body to be WAY more interesting/attractive than those ugly, disgusting, zombie "models" - they look like plain, fragile twigs. There's nothing to see about them, because there's nothing to their body, really, only angles ((boney)).
I love the concept you portray in this photo, and I actualy realy like the way your hair falls over your face - nice touch, lol. Personally, I think it looks "sexy chic" - I'd rather say lovely, but that's just me, lol.
Very loverly!
I sort of want to do something like this, because my body is shaped oddly, I think. I have a very lean upper body ((which you know about, of course - me fitting into your mom's old dresses and all, lol)), but then my lower body becomes more curvy. We'll see....
This is off topic from the pic, actually, but I was thinking about doing a photograph that involves someone doing a handstand ((body against a wall for support if needed)), and they'd be reading a book and smoking a cig at the same time ((bubble gum cigs? lol)) - I just thought of that one day and was like, "Hm. That would be interesting...."
In my head, it would be an unusual/cool B&W photograph.

I can do that. Well, not the handstand...but the rest I'd be more than happy to. As for the ones of you, do you mean ones more scantily clad? Or just more full body artsy...?

I guess more scantily clad.
I'd be willing to try the handstand thing, lol.
