Description Money is the root of all evil, yet money also makes the world go round (don't me romantic and correct me to "love") without money the modern world wouldn't exist, in hindsight that wouldn't be so bad but who knows what would replace it?

I hate money yet I covet it, I hate it because without money I cannot do the things I really wish I could, see the people I really want to. If there were no money there wouldn't be the world economy quite the way we have now, instead of trading services for money, we would trade services for services, therefore supply and demand would play a huge role in life, imagine modern technology but broken up into personally franchises, a family gas station, trading fuel for loaves of bread or help around the station or even just washing the dishes depending how desperate they are. Personally, with a few adjustments, I believe that this would, ultimately be the more honourable, effective and beneficiary state of affairs.

Families would travel more, not for the sake of boredom but due to necessity, children would learn their parent's trade while young and spend the majority of their lives living, diversity would be rife, as would courtesy of conduct, which today is rare, intelligence would be venerated as would skill, those in large families had absolute freedom of choice when it comes to careers, wonder the world performing odd jobs the feed yourself, find love, find a trade, settle down, live would be good for most. Sadly, we cannot return to that life, not because it's impossible, but because money has corrupted many, money has taken the minds and souls of those truly capable of making this change.

Short of an apocalyptic even… this world is not going to change, for that, I hate the world.

Money is ultimately the cause of evil, but mankind is programmed to be destructive, while not in every humans nature to kill and destroy it is there in most, and money just fuels this by way of corruption and greed.

There is far too much negativity in the world, in it's many forms... this last weekend was "open house" weekend in London... personally I could not think of anything more awful, but an open invitation to walk around the houses of people with lots of money showing off to everyone what amazing things they have and how much luck and success they have had in their lives, (negative I know but wait...) I wish them all the love and success in the world but clearly they don't need it as much as perhaps others in the world might, i see images of people living in shacks and drinking stinking disease ridden water, others being killed for not believing the right things (according to others)... what are we doing as a species .... where are we really going ... if not to our own destruction!

mhmm, i agree, humanity is bred to fight and kill, thats how we survived to become the dominant species. however, i believe that without the medium of universal currency this corruption would be a lot harder to spread

and i quote "I don't know what weapons WW III will be fought with, but WW IV will be fought with sticks and stones"

The world can be changed. It is changing. Maybe you hate the world because it's changing from the time you thought was just nice.
Or maybe just because it's changing.

Then it's a specific change you're referring to, to Change in general.

Mm... I dislike the way money rules our world too, but I think that we should still be able to trade services as well as money... Wouldn't it be good if two things cost the same, so you could trade them?
Also, RandomFact: Sausages were still legal tender in Germany until 1990.

hardly surprising, the germans used to carry their day's wages home in wheelbarrows. but if we have standard currency then no one is going to want to trade, choose, trade your loaf of bread for A. a pound of sausages B. a piece of metal that you can then trade for ANYTHING else, which would you go for?

Depends on how hungry I was and whether the sausages were cooked >.>

ok try this, you have a warm coat, two other people dont and are cold, one offers you money, the other offers you a set of gardening tools, which will you choose? taking into account that the tools are the only things of value he has to trade and the money is capable of being traded for almost anything.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mouseluva In reply to Niteshifter [2010-06-10 20:37:42 +0000 UTC]

Well, if you could trade anything for anything, it wouldn't matter. YOu could then trade the gardening tools on. So it wouldn't really matter; money would just be a backup for if you didn't want to give up objects, or had all that your heart desired and needed a salary or something.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Niteshifter In reply to mouseluva [2010-06-10 21:42:52 +0000 UTC]

someone might not want gardening tools though, if someone doesnt want what you're offering then they wont trade but if you have something that they can then buy what they want with then it would make a big difference

I guess. The others would probably be obsolete, but it would be good if the option was there...
