Description OK, this is going to annoy most people but i want to talk ethics, this is less of a post than a discussion.

Cloning, is it ethical? more importantly, what is a clone? if humans can successfully create life then theoretically a clone is a homunculus, a man-made human, and in that case, does a clone have a soul? humans can't create that, but a clone, does it think? feel? bleed? does that not make it human? does that not make it an individual? unique? just like any other human? who gives humans the right to create life through such unnatural means? what would we do with a clone if we created one? all things have souls, but the only reason that might be is that all things were created naturally, by simple combining of traits, of humans can pick and choose these traits, then can those created this way be called human? or are they homunculus? the perfect human, unblemished, specified down to the last detail. is that ethical? if you created a clone, a homunculus, a "perfect" human, what would you do with it? how would you treat it? would it even have a soul? seeing as we don't really know what a soul actually is, we can't even guess.

I would be delighted to hear your views, please post any opinions

This is off topic, but I have read several of your discussions on this site and you seem like a logical, intelligent person. So I was wondering if you believe in any sort of concept of the afterlife. I guess that this could go along with this piece - it raises the question of whether or not we have a soul, and how to define the soul.

well, logically i do accept the possibility of something more after this life, simply on the grounds that this life would be meaningless otherwise, however, i do not wish to commit to any possibilities, i have no logical evidence or reason to support reincarnation, heaven/hell, etc, however, i believe that, in the case of the soul, it is entirely possible that, once our physical body dies, the patterns and energy that dictate our personalities and habits may well live on, as some form of higher consciousness, or simply disperse and provide the energy needed to start a new life cycle. as for whether or not the soul itself exists, well that is simple, every human has unique character traits, so, logically, there must but some metal or physiological record or the patterns in brainwaves that cause these traits, i do not think we are born with the same personality we die with, the human soul evolves throughout life due to new experiences, but on the question of WHAT the soul is, i don't know, some scientists believe that the as yet unmapped 10% of the human genome is the "blueprint for the soul" as they put it, that could be correct, or it is simply i collection of connections, neurons and electrical impulses within the brain which will inevitably die with the body, but i like to think that the soul is something less physical, energy and matter, can only be changed, not destroyed, which means that the energy of the human soul (there has to be something, the human body can do incredible things) does not disappear when we die, it simply changes.
