Nervous and on edge, she stood in front of the cottage and tried to calm down. Her throat felt really dry and she didn’t feel that well. Clover took deep breaths and looked down at the letter from her father. This should be the right house. She had asked a few wyngrew, who lived near here and they confirmed it. This had to be her mother’s house. Soon she would have the answers to all the questions she had. Why didn’t her father want to talk about the reason they didn’t stay together? Why did he insist, that her mother was generally a nice gro, but at the same time didn’t want Clover to find her? Why wouldn’t her mother want to see her? Something weird was going on… And Clover was determined to find out. She focused on her usual optimistic attitude and ran up to the door. Her heart was pounding, but she gathered up all the courage she had and knocked. It didn’t take long until a yellow quad opened the door.
„Can I help you?“, she asked.
That had to be her. Clover was sure about it. She was so overwhelmed, that she didn’t say anything and only stared at her mother.
„Is everything alright?“, she asked further and squinted her eyes, as if something looked wrong about Clover.
This snapped her out of her frozen state.
„Ah! I’m sorry! Eh… Are you Tris…?“
„Yes, I am.“
Clover started smiling and got really excited.
„Hi! I know, it’s probably been a while, but it’s me, Clover!“
But her mother didn’t seem to react and looked at her confused. Didn’t she know her name…?
„Ahm… Your… your daughter…?“, Clover continued, now more unsure.
This rang a bell and Tris nodded her head.
„Yes, I remember now. No wonder your aura felt so familiar.“
Clover smiled again and wanted to tell her mother how happy she was to finally meet her. But before she could utter a word, her dreams were shattered.
„Why did you come? I told your father, that I don’t want you two near me. I heard, that Klee left Wynsiph a long while ago. Didn’t he take you with him?“
Clover was too confused to answer right away. It sounded like… her mother was trying to get rid of her? Wasn’t she happy to meet her?
„Wha-what are you talking about…? Why do I have to stay away from you? Why does everyone keep telling me that? I just want to talk…“
„So he didn’t tell you anything?“, Tris questioned.
„Well… I… No… I don’t remember anything about my father. But he left me a letter and that is how I found you.“
„That makes sense. Alright, then I’ll explain it again. The problem is your aura, the energy that surrounds you. Your father was followed by misfortune wherever he went. And you inherited this bad luck. It might not be as strong but I can clearly feel the same bad energy. I can’t accept this kind of energy near me. That is why I couldn’t keep your father or your egg with me. Your egg was a bad omen I had to get rid off. I’m sure you understand.“
„No! No, I don’t!“, she cried.
She had been quiet for most of the explanation, but she couldn’t stop herself anymore from crying. What was all this talk about energy and misfortune? She didn’t understand.
„So… this is the reason, why you didn’t want me? Because I apparently inherited some bad luck…? Isn’t- isn’t there anything I can do to convince you otherwise?“, she asked desperately.
„There could be a way… I could try to get rid of that bad luck that is haunting you, but I’m not too sure about that. I couldn’t heal your father, so I don’t think that I can help you“, she answered coldly.
„No! I don’t care about that bad luck or dumb energy stuff! I want to show you who I am!“, she cried and started to get angry, „Why is that aura stuff so important to you? Why can’t I be more important than that? I’m so much more than bad luck! And all that dumb stuff isn’t even true! I’m happy with my life! I have so many friends who like to spend time with me and I’ve worked so hard to be the best I can be. How is that misfortune?“
„So did nothing bad ever happen to you? Never felt like misfortune was haunting you?“, Tris confronted her, „I doubt, that your life was only sunshine and rainbows. I can feel it.“
Clover froze up and memories came back. She remembered Xavier getting hurt and the forest, the darkness and the fear she felt. Instinctively her tail twitched and she looked away from Tris. It didn’t stop there. She remembered recent events: forgetting to ask Reed, not being able to send one letter to the right person after three tries, all the miserable faces at the party, breaking Izu’s arm, fearing Finn could die, seeing Chase bleeding…
„It wasn’t… always easy…“, she stammered, „So-so what? Bad things happen, you can’t avoid it…“
„I have never experienced anything, that would make me react the way you did. And I can assure you, that it won’t be the last time. Some wyngrew are just cursed and they can’t do anything against it. And I won’t let this curse near me.“
These were Tris’ last words. She had enough and closed the door, while Clover was still standing in front of it. She didn’t move for a while. It felt like hours until she could use her legs again and return home.

aaahhhh, I had this written and sitting around for months and finally I can show it! ;v; I was so afraid, that the drawing wouldn't come out as good as I wanted it to be, because this is such a big and important plot point, but I'm so proud of how everything turned out ;v; I probably drew Clover a bit too angry than the story shows, but this is the only time I can draw her this way, so I went all out!
