Description "And what is it you wish for, little Maia?"

Sometime in the early days of Melkor seducing Mairon to his side.
I headcanon Aulë’s Maiar to be hard working and focused, which Mairon is. I think Aulë also required them to be selfless, humble, and obedient. I believe Mairon did strive to be these things, but often found his own will stronger. I think praise really does it for Mairon in the beginning, that and recognition for his talent and creativity; all things Aulë isn’t into. So here’s this Maia with this burning passion inside him and it’s stifled, thus the dark hair with the glowing underside. I headcanon that after Mairon joins Melkor his fire is free to burn brightly and he does have fiery hair at that point.
On the other hand, Melkor is fire and chaos and mighty in his power. I headcanon at this point, Melkor isn’t dark and gray, he’s bright and fiery which is part of the reason Mairon joins him. Mairon sees the same fire within Melkor and Melkor sees it in Mairon. I think that after Melkor’s imprisonment, as he throws himself into war and is unable to change his form, that fire gutters. Melkor's hair is inspired by lava flows.
It’s not canon, obviously, but I have this weird need as an artist to kind of recreate things sometimes. Hopefully that makes sense Maybe one day I’ll do a progression of both of them through the ages.

Your description matches the picture very well, I like it. Melkor does look smug and possesive. Personally I think Mairon was just an overambitious little shit lol, Aule was said to delight in things new and unthought of by others and enjoyed praise for it, I dont see why he wouldnt praise a brilliant pupil of his (Mairon), but Melkor was more. But I like this version too
