Yes, apparently that song transcends language & culture barriers . That song gets played a lot on radio in the U.S. & every band that plays here in Alabama feels they must play at least a bit of it for an encore.Β Does get a bit trying at times. Well tell them all I said thanks for jumping . IF you state it as 19:44 I'll have to look it up . ha ha !! lol

Woah, this landscape really looks amazing! I almost forgot about the Yellowstone National Park, I'm very obsessed with the Yosemite one and I would totally visit the Grand Canyon. Sigh, I really wish that I will see it all by myself in the nearer future.
Yeah, superior behaviour is unfortunately a common problem among us teenagers, but I guess it's not only in Germany. Many of the youth are in this phase were they need to show other people that their rich, smarter and/or cooler. :/ That's why I've never been a social person in my school and even though nobody hates me and I was even elected the "head" of my class by them, I rarely do something with them in my free-time. I hate gossiping as well, don't use make-up or am all about fashion. I'm...different and often get told being more mature than it's usual for my age. But I'm glad that the parents were nice to you!
Really? Haha, that's cool But then you haven't seen Sweden, Norwegian or Finland yet, haven't you? In every single shop, no matter what kind, is one huge shelf filled with sweets that you could choose freely and put them into a paper bag. I've never eaten so many sweets before o.o
German is indeed a difficult, even though beautiful language. I know that a lot of people struggle with grammar and especially the three articles "der", "die" and "das". ^^'

I'm sure both are beautiful landscapes I would like to visit both and I also have the feeling that the Yellowstone National Park will impress me more, but I once started book which takes place in the Yosemite one and it would be so cool to be there.
Of course you can ask me that - I'm actually just 16. ^^ I also hope that it gets better when I start studying, at least I will have people around me who are interested in the same stuff as me. The girls of my class are actually quite mature, just some problems here and there or opinions I just can't agree with, for example that complaining about somebody behind its back isn't always gossiping. As long as the person you're talking about doesn't know what you don't like about him but you talk to your friends about it, it's gossiping in my opinion. When you have a problem with someone, of course it's often necessary to talk to someone about that to let off steam, but you should also talk to the person you're complaining about.
I have been in Sweden in 2012 and it was amazing. Nothing like I expected it. Often there's the clichΓ© that Sweden is rainy and cold but I actually had luck. My grandparents and me were there for two weeks and the first one was full of sun, making the nature more enjoyable which is just so beautiful. I have seen lakes with such a strong light blue water colour like you would expect it in the Caribbean, wide meadows and forests, cliffs, it was amazing and I can recommend everyone to go there. The people were so nice and I like their culture, that they have candy everywhere surely is unhealthy but also funny, children there must be so happy. :3 Next thing I tell everybody about the Swedish: Their language isn't as difficult as assumed. It's like a mix of English and more Middle Europe languages, like German, at least in case of vocabularies. While in English it's "milk", in Swedish it's "mjΓΆlk", a similar sounding. Or: English "bread", German "Brot", Swedish "BrΓΆd". It's a cool language.
Oh yes, conjugation must be terrible especially in comparison to English, since I have no idea about Slovenian.
English:
- I like.
- You like.
- He/She/It likes.
- We like.
- You like.
- They like.
Almost no difference, just the word in front of "like" is different with the exception of he, she and it where there has to be an "s" at the end. Of course there are some irregular words, but not so many that wouldn't be able to learn them. Whilst in German, the above example would be:
- Ich mag.
- Du magst.
- Er/Sie/Es mag.
- Wir mΓΆgen.
- Ihr mΓΆgt.
- Sie mΓΆgen.
And then German grammar which even I can't explain, even though I somehow do it right. I would be interested in how the example above would be in Slovenian?
I appreciate people who can speak other languages fluently a lot, I wouldn't have the endurance, but it's awesome and impressing.

nkyvi In reply to rhevi [2016-11-08 22:03:32 +0000 UTC]
I understand how books make things even more magical ^^
And both places are beautiful each in it's own way
Then it looks like you're very mature for your age. Yep agreed. And the worst is when people start to gossip lies. I hope that doesn't happen in your class. But yes, the mutual interest in college is a cool thing and it makes a great conversation starter too
Then you have travelled quite a lot I believe hat it was beautiful and it makes me even more wanting to go. I really wanna see the Nordic countries. And looks like I'll then understand their basic written things ^^
And now, prepare for complications.
Slovenian is probably more complicated than German, especially because we have a special thing between singular and plural - it's called dvojina and marks the words for two people. You Germans have four (I don't know the general name for those things) Nominativ, Dativ, Akkusativ and Genitiv, and we have six. And when we speak sentences, the person (I, you etc...) dissapears because you can see who the sentence is about from the verb.
So here is the example in which both words are the verb. The word 'rad' means like and the 'ima' means have.
Singular
-rada imam (I, female)
-rad imam (I, male)
-rada imaΕ‘ (you, f)
-rad imaΕ‘ (you, m or non specified)
-rada ima (she)
-rad ima (he)
-rado ima (it, some objects are it, and some he and she, like in German)
Dvojina
-radi imava (we 2, f)
-rada imava (we 2, males or one female and one male)
-radi imata (you 2, f)
-rada imata (you 2, males or one female and one male)
-radi imata (they 2, f)
-rada imata (they 2, male or one female one male, or objects that are he)
-rada imajo (2 or more of objects that are it)
Pural
-rade imamo (we, f)
-radi imamo (we, males or one female and one male)
-rade imate (you in plural, f)
-radi imate (you in plural, males or one at least one male in a group)
-rade imate (they, f)
-radi imajo (they, males or one at least one male in a group, or objects that are he)
-radi imajo (more of objects that are it)
That is the most common way to say you like things or food.
Of course I could have put the persons (I, you etc...) next to this too, but that wouldn't be like we speak.
There are other ways to say I like too, for example a word 'vΕ‘eΔ' also means like and its used as 'vΕ‘eΔ mi je (I, male or female)' and to show the meaning I would says it's likeable to me. 'VΕ‘eΔ' is more often used for liking humans and their traits, but not as much as when you love them. Maybe a bit like gefalt mir. Sorry I have no above-dots on my keboard...
So I hope you got some insight in my language, and that the amount of text didn't scare you. I am very happy that you showed interest in something that only has two million native speakers and could go extinct in a few hundred years. More and more of youth is speaking Slovenian with English mixed in. But we have books and stuff that will remain.

Thank you very much, I'm always glad to hear that.
Oh yeah, to spread lies is the worst thing one can do, especially because most other persons just believe them without question. Fortunately, this wasn't a common problem in my class, I think the last lies which lead to enormous drama came up four years ago and only because of misunderstandings. But in parallel classes there's still gossiping, at least about real things. I hate it so much when somebody out of nowhere asks me about something embarrassing. I think I didn't tell anybody here on deviantArt yet, but I trust you and it's not a secret anyway: I have the "abnormal" behaviour to pick my eyelashes unwittingly since I was a child and nothing helped so far. And often I receive questions like "Do you really pick your eyelashes? Doesn't that hurt?" "Why do you pick your eyelashes?" and comments like "Your eyes would look so beautiful with eyelashes." And they don't even mean it in an evil way, more in a curious, but I know that they've heard that from other class mates. I'm just happy that these few souls really talk to me about it, even though it's kind of embarrassing, as I said.
I really look forward these conversations. Since now I could never talk to somebody about colour psychology, the arrangement of elements in a photo, the golden hour, different styles like vintage and modern in graphic design and so on. I know the feeling to finally have somebody you can talk to about all these topics, but with the game Minecraft. ^^
Actually not. ^^ Many of my class mates can manage to fly to Turkey every year, sometimes twice a year or to the Caribbeans and places like that. I've only been in Hungary in 2008, in Sweden in 2012 and this year I have been in England, at least in comparison to other German families that's not much. But I think I could enjoy these trips more than other people. Sweden is definitely worth a vacation.
Wow, that's a lot of grammar. But it actually reminds me a bit of Latin, there you also don't have to use words like "I" and "You" because you can see it in the verbs, and you also have a fifth case, the ablative/Ablativ. Even though the dvojina makes the language more complicated, I think it increases it's efficiency. In German you always need to paraphrase it somehow. "Wir beide/Wir zwei" and so on. I really like how your language deals with this case, I think that's a modern touch, just like the this middle-thing between like and love according to persons. Also, thank you very much for setting up this detailed conjugation list for me, that's very kind of you! It's really sad that it seems so realistic that this language one day could become extinct, it's the same thing with religions. I'm not religious by the way, but religions belong and define so many cultures and if somewhen really just one religion would be formed out of this, it would be a pity that so many cultures would lose an important aspect, just like languages. Every language has its own style which is typical for the country it's natively spoken in. You know what? I have been working on a fantasy language quite a long time now and I think that Slovenian could be a huge help for finding words and maybe even in grammar, I would especially like to add such a djovina case.

I'm really tired so this is probably going to have more mistakes and unclear sentences than my previous messages, sorry;
Good that there isn't much drama ^^
I don't think about picking lashes a a very abnormal thing, here's why: Because everybody does something unwittingly, for example I touch/pull my hair, especially when nervous, others bite their nails and so on. As long as what one does doesn't damage their body's functioning abilities, the thing they do isn't that a big deal. My mom wants me to stop doing the hair thing of course, but my real friends don't mind (and they do unintentional things with their bodies too. I'm not sure if I know anybody that doesn't do anything at all.) So don't be too embarrassed, because you're pretty normal actually
From that I fell like you will study something art related^^ I myself study microbiology. It's funny how my teachers always used to push me in the art direction but I wanted to keep it as a hobby. And those are all interesting topics in my opinion and it's kinda sad that nobody would talk to you about them. I could, if you want. Myself, I'd just be like ''Oh it's golden hour'' when leaving college late, and then others would ask ''What, is this one of your artsy stuff?'' and that would give me the possibility to explain it I don't even know how I'm going with that. It's like an idea how to start a conversation
So your school mates' lifestyle would be called wanna-be-rich here, although we don't have that much less income in Slovenia. I hope that doesn't sound rude to you, but we kind of tell the things with brutal honesty sometimes in southern Europe.
In Slovenia, quite some people go to Turkey too, and I know some. But it's almost the same price as going to the neighbor Croatia. Because all that the popular tourist packages offer is staying in a single hotel at the beach and relaxing. And for me, that isn't travelling. I can't imagine to see no nature, culture, food and other things of the county I am visiting.
For me, less travelling and seeing more is the option I'd stick with The countries I was in are Italy, Austria, Croatia, Greece, Germany, Switzerland, and USA, and I drove through France if that counts It's is not that much and almost everything was really close. I'm planning a cheap rail trip with my boyfriend around Hungary, Chezc republic and Poland for next year. (He is the one that was with me in the USA.) And I suggest these kind of travells with friends to you too, especially after you get a bit older. It's much more fun than hotels in exotic places
Yes, it is similar to Latin, and I learned some Latin easily because of that Some people call our language 'the language of love' because of dvojina. It's funny to me because dvojina is used whenever speaking about two people, not only for couples.
I count myself as non-religious too, but it would be strange if the religion disappeared, because it's a part of our culture - simply because it's around for long enough. Luckily we have an institution that takes care of our cultural heritage and organises events and such - I hope you have that too because there should be one for every culture
And If you need any help with mixing some Slovenian in your language (a creative idea by the way) you can always ask me
