Loisa sat quietly outside the small ramshackle house she and her best friend Marissa. They'd owned this place for a few years now, having bought it as a fixer-upper and were slowly building it up. Having just turned twenty-three and holding down a steady job at a nearby jail house, Loisa couldn't help but love being in charge of her life for the first time in a long time. She'd come from a broken family, her mother an abusive alcoholic and her father skipped out when she was five, Loisa emancipated herself by age fourteen. Struggling with bills and keeping herself in school, Loisa answered an ad in the newspaper of a young adult looking for a room mate in a city flat. Heading out she met Marissa, then age nineteen and working through college. Soon the two became inseparable, as Marissa settled into a motherly role that Loisa craved for her missed childhood. Once she worked through the police academy they'd looked for a more quiet place to start over working on helping Marissa do her veterinary practice on large animal, so they bought the small two floor inn. Getting up she walked inside from the porch and smiled watching Marissa make a large roast.
