The lack of detail is wanted. I've to admit I like these style. Half vector, half water color like or whatever you want to call it.
With details, but not to much. Just at the right places! (like the eyes- eyes are always veeeeery important!)

they are like yin and yan. they are oppose to each other but cannot be without each other. I like this so much about them!
though I think, season three and four have proven that the doctor can live on easier without the master than the other way around since the doctor is the masters chosen audience

the master's more difficult if I want to draw hi in my comic style. I'm never really satisfied with him which is maybe because he hasn't this easy to recognize features like the doc ^^°
John Simm looks great! but davids nose, hair and ears are far to great details which John haven't XD

Okay - as I already said. I really like your picture because all in all you held it pretty simple and at the same time the eyes have so mucht expression.
Both look really good and you recognize them immediatly. And now that I know a little bit more about them, it's really pretty sweet ^.^

i like simple but full of expression! ^^b I really gave their eyes the most attention, and already told you why- the eyes are the most important thing in a portrait picture! as long as their real and full of life, the rest can be simpler ^_^

Thats a really nice, painty style. The lack of detail works in your favour; details are implied, but its not overkill. The attitude and personalities of the characters, and the relationship between them, is expressed really well!

I know what you mean. I've been wanting to do a painting of the moment right after he says, "I don't want to go.". The emotion in his eyes is just so tragic but I can't take a screenshot reference because I simply can't watch that part again.
