Do you know who I am; yes or no?

Am I a friend or am I a foe?

When you see me are you filled with fear?

Or do you hold me as something dear?

I am well known by many people

The old and young, the strong and feeble.

I am employed by the holy Lord.

I use no weapon, not gun or sword.

I am called the angel of darkness,

The reaper, King of the Great Abyss,

Harbinger of Silence, a demon,

And others that have lost their meaning.

I did not always exist on Earth.

Many religions tell of my birth.

From Romans, Greeks, and to the Christians,

Tell my story, while others listen.

I am not a cold blooded killer,

Unfortunately, I’m not a saint either.

I do my job just as I am told.

I do not feel; I’m not ‘fraid or bold.

Some say I’m judgment; that’s not true.

While others try to use me, that’s new!

Heaven and Hell are filled with my deeds,

No human could hope to control me!

In the calm times I would hardly work,

But humans have changed, and now I lurk,

In the shadows, now always working,

These changing times have left me hurting.

For each other humans once held respect,

Now they critique each others’ aspects.

I might stop if humans end their fury.

Can humans attain such purity?

Alas, I don’t believe that they can,

For if they did, every child to man

Would live better, ‘cause with their last breath

They see their mistakes as I come, Death.
