Description

It's been a long time since I've drawn any digital art, but I felt up to it today, so here we are. I wanted to practice perspective a bit as I usually draw characters in profile, and while this is not an uncommon perspective from me either, it's still one that needs work. I definitely need to branch out more, though. Initially I had planned to draw another character or two behind Zira, as well as a background, and was considering adding some story/dialogue as the description, but I couldn't figure out exactly what that should be, so here's young Zira, just being grumpy, I guess. In lieu of any real depth, I'll just say a few things here that I've always headcanoned about Zira. I have always imagined that she was older than Simba and Nala but not as old as Mufasa, Scar, Sarabi, and Sarafina. I see her as having been an adolescent when she first met Scar, and he, wanting to have loyal lionesses as well as hyenas, would have shown her only kindness, manipulating her into worshiping this "generous" king. She'd have butted heads with the lionesses of the pride who knew better as she'd be unable to see why they hated him so, and she would blame them for the way he treated them, as he'd have her convinced that their hatred of him came prior to him forcing them to hunt for the hyenas and other such cruelty. I've never seen any of her cubs as actually having been Scar's, and always imagined that her claims that Scar had "hand picked" Kovu to be his successor either came from insanity and devotion or from her having seen Scar's spirit the way Simba saw Mufasa's.
