Description
An anniversary present for my wife. She loves birds, and I love New Zealand.
Starting from back to front, the birds are:
Back Row-- an extinct moa Dinornis robustus; the giant, also extinct, Haast’s Eagle Harpagornis moorei (which was big enough to attack moas) and the extinct North Island Adzebill Aptornis otidiformis. In front of all of them is the Yellow-eyed Penguin Megadyptes antipodes.
Second Row—Tui Prosthermadera novaeseelandiae; Weka Gallirallis australis; Kaka parrot Nestor Meridionalis; and a Paradise Shelduck Tadorna variegate.
Third Row—Spotted Shag Phalacrocorax punctatus; New Zealand Falcon Falco novaeseelandiae; and a Kea Nestor notabilis.
Fourth Row—Kakapo Strigops habroptila; Pukeko or Purple Swamphen Porphyrio porphyrio; the three species of New Zealand parakeet Cyanoramphus auriceps, C. novaezelandiae and C. malherbi.
At the bottom right is the North Island Brown Kiwi Apteryx mantelli and just below it is the South Island Rock Wren Xenicus gilviventris.
