Description Winter Tree at Abbey Flats, Barrow-in-Furness. Tree photographed at 12 noon on a Winter Solstice with the sun directly behind the tree (in fact hidden behind the trunk just below the first fork). Grass is covered in snow with sheep grazing through the snow in the background and the Abbey House Hotel on the skyline to the right.

Print is a light weight smooth water colour paper coated in silver gelatine. Heavily burned in at the top to both hem the top of the tree and bring out the brush work. The print was toned with a dark sepia and then hand retouched to bring back edge definition lost to light spill caused by the suns position (e.g. the trunk was cut in two by the sun spilling round the sides)

Nice!

Amazing shot to begin with, but the developing is what really makes this image stand out. The edging is perfect, as is the contrast in the image.

Two thumbs up. +favs
