Yet another custom repaint of Mattel's Cher celebrity doll. This doll started out as the 2001 first ever released 11 1/2 inch Barbie-sized Cher dressed in a lavender gown originally designed by Bob Mackie.
So , as I always do, I completely removed factory facial painting and hand painted the doll to create a faithful replica of Cher's features particularly inspired by her signature look.
The doll's hair has been also been painstakingly reworked. I gave it a trim and then thinned down the thickness of the doll's hair by running the scissors along the length of the hair. This was done to achieve a more realistic scale in miniature. Her bangs also underwent restyling - it was heat set so that is sits flat on her forehead.
The inset photo on the bottom middle shows the doll as it looked originally before repainting.
Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area . Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.

well, this is kinda going to sound weird, since it Cher, but… your repaint looks so much more like her then the fabricated doll!
It's almost amazing how the fabricated doll's face makes her even more unrealistic looking than she does, considering that Cher doesnt look very natural anymore. You managed to give her a natural appearance and breathed life into the doll

Its funny that they go to such efforts to get the heads well sculpted but let them go out with such horrible paint jobs on them. You've done an awesome job paiting this, the likeness is excellent.

Amazing. I love that your repaints don't just make the dolls look better than the originals but that the resemblance to the actual people is so uncanny that you almost expect them to change their expression or blink at you if you stare at them long enough.

Looking at this doll makes me wonder; have you ever thought about airbrushing the body as well? On dolls like this one where she shows a bit of skin, I think I'd love to see her body as matte as the face and not shiny stock plastic, if you know what I mean
