Tonner doll co. released its 17 inch Capt. Jack Sparrow figure recently. And although it is a wonderful recreation of Jack Sparrow, I felt it needed to be more authentic in terms of hairstyling and resemblance to Johnny Depp. So I removed all factory facial paint and completely repainted the doll to more closely resemble Johnny Depp as Capt. Jack. Also, the original hair started out just being plain with a little bit of wave and braids to it. So, I reworked it and created the dreadlocks just like the real character's. Also, I handpainted Jack's tattoo as seen in the movie, as well as the pattern on his bandana. Finally, the hair ornaments were repositioned to look more accurate.
Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area . Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.

It's quite disturbing to see such realistic heads on such plastic necks. It looks very impressive, but incomplete. The head looks totally real though.

I used to do repaints a few years back, got myself a Trent doll (not by Tonner, the other company) and sculpted some of his features, bought a lock of human hair and everything, my mum was going to make the clothes
