Description Sepia colored piece, [link]

Tried to really make this more accurate as far as the period is concerned with drawing Queen Mary. In the game, she and her husband George were abducted by aliens in 1909. Most people have her in your stereotypical "princess dress" but I tried to design something more reflecting the time of which she lived. Looked extensively at dresses/costumes from the 1910s and particularly at the fashion of early silent film actress Gloria Swanson.

Regardless that you used references for the dress, etc., I am always amazed at how true artists as yourself are able to draw clothing in original styles. I may give this one a try with coloring. However, it would be a challenge as it looks as though I will have to ink it. And I feel as though I am desecrating true art when I do that.

However, I accept the challenge as it is and will not bother you for an inked version.

(I really should be trying to get a job instead of doing these types of things. Oh well.)

Ink away bro. The sketch/lineart isn't this clean in real life. Thanks to the magic of Photoshop you don't see all the erasures and smudges. For me, I don't like to ink things that I'm planning on watercoloring later down the line. As I'm typing this, I'm readying my monochrome sepia ink (homemade!) for the initial wash over the drawing.

Yeah, I tried hard to not do the typical pretty pretty princess bit for my rendition of Queen Mary. I know the in game sprite for her isn't that detailed (because it was for the 8-bit Famicom (NES)).

I printed it out at best resolution to use on a light box and it looks quite daunting. You see, I'm not really a visual artist. Actually, I like coloring books but then I discovered that I could "paint" in Photoshop. Usually I stick to much simpler works that are idiot-friendly (me being the idiot), and use "paint bucket" mostly.

At least when I do my coloring now, my wife thinks that I am working. It really used to disturb her to see me coloring with crayons in a Barbie or Disney Princess coloring book. Why would it be disturbing to watch a man in his fifties who is a part-time inventor and theoretical physicist using crayons?

So, you are going to watercolor this? That will be very classy. I'll keep checking back to see it.

I probably will do a full watercolor version sometime later. I did throw on some of my homemade sepia toned ink for a monochrome version though [link]

ah thanks! To me, the devil is in the details and complex period fashion has a lot of it.
