Yeah, I tried to draw a sketch first, but I couldn't see the pencil on the black paper, so I just had to wing it...You can't tell by looking at it, but it came out way different than I had imagined. It still looks all right, but it probably would have been better if I would have used a sketch or something.

Thank you! I worked really hard to make it look as realistic as possible, which is why I chose to use a reference in the first place, and when I put the time and effort into a piece, I can make it turn out pretty nice. Thank you for the favorite!

you're welcome,i never use any references even if i try to paint something realistic. this takes more challenge...but really i'm not against those ho use references, but it would be interesting to see how they would change angle (would be much more original

I don't normally use a reference, especially since I usually draw original characters, fantasy things, or make up something, which don't exist in the first place...When I do use a reference, it doesn't quite look like it anyways. This parrot is off from the reference, but oh well. I like it alone.
With your dragons and dinosaur-like creatures, I could see why you wouldn't use a reference.
