This is incredible!  I love the texture in the rabbit's fur and in her shirt.  Also, the hair is extremely luscious.  I wish that you made the background dark to bring out the girl and the rabbit and made the girl's value a bit more different than the rabbit so that they didn't blend into each other.  Even a slight toning down and maybe some shadows that the rabbit would cast onto her would help distinguish the two subjects.  But wonderful work!  I can't believe it's done with just pencil!

Oh my! Nicest critique I've ever heard Actually you are right, the background has to be darker to get the contrast between the hair,rabbit and everything else! I don't know why I did not consider it earlier, but the background is something I am very feared of, it messed up my pictures quite often...
Anyway are you from Vietnam, cause your name's Ngyuen ? Thank you kindly for your opinion again

Aw thank you so much!  And thank you for watching me, I'm very grateful.     I understand, it's normal for us to get really used to something and not change it.  It happens to me a lot so that's why I'm usually really eager for critique.  Also, it helps to step away from a piece for a while and then come back with fresh eyes.  Compliments are nice but sometimes critiques are necessary, especially since I'm a perfectionist and always see there something in need of improvement (isn't that the case with all of us?? )  Don't be scared of your background or messing up, be fearless (channel some Tyra Banks). 

I'm not, I was born in the US but my family is from Vietnam

You are mostly welcome, you do very nice paintings! You are right, it's cool to try out something new, so I will do it next time, thanks for encouraging me Since I'm perfectionist too, I value critique much more than compliments Same for me, my parents are from there too xD

My goodness, thank you   Really?  That's so interesting!  I can't imagine the experience they had.  My mom came here with most of her family and it must be so jarring because they had to adapt in such a foreign place!  I don't know if I could ever do that!

They ran away from war and starvation to give me a future It was very difficult to start with nothing but their clothes in a completely new country with a foreign language So all the relatives stayed in Vietnam To be honest that is a difficult step I couldn't do either But United States sounds very interesting^^

You are right, the technique I used for the hair is called "negative drawing". It is simple but has an amazing impact, you should try it too Thanks for your kind words

by negative drawing, do you mean to draw by eraseing out the white bits from darker part? .. I did get myself some tombow erasers for that purouse, but havent got the hang of it quite yet

Wow this is insanely good! I don't know too much about the techniques in realism, but just looking at it I wanted a little bit more contrast between the lights and darks, to give it more of a range in the gray scale. But I understand how that could be difficult with all that blond hair! (which looks amazing btw). I especially love the eyes.

Many thanks for your truly kind words! You are absolutely right, there is too much white (light gray and her hair is blond) in the picture, more contrast would be nice... I should have darken the background but I'm afraid of messing up the picture (it happens once) because this is a way with no turning back :< Furthermore I'm working with graphite and it's really hard for me to achieve the deep black of charcoal, maybe there is another secret way, I'm drawing seriously since I joined deviantart, so I'm still learning

By the way, your watercolor paintings are truly awesome, you really have a special talent Maxine Thanks again for your critique, it is helping me a lot

Of course, you're welcome! You are very talented!  
Have you tried experimenting with digital editing? Even just adjusting the contrast in a simple photo editor can have a huge affect, and not even with something fancy like Photoshop! That way you can change how it looks without having to mess with the original. Maybe something to consider!
And of course the only way to get better is by learning

Thank you for the tip! Currently I'm using photoshop only to make my picture look like my original drawing, but I quite like the idea of having a preview of the modified drawing Thank you too sweetie, you wrote lovely comments
