My thoughts on AI. I'm a 32 year old graphic designer focusing in Branding and UI/UX with 15 years of experience, designing since I was 17 and discovered GIMP, brushes and the idea of being able to design my myspace page. In April of this year when I discovered DALL-E, as a graphic designer the idea of being able to generate an image in a matter of seconds caught my attention, and help a lot on my work and in August of this year it was released the public model of Stable Diffusion a much more powerful AI option and free to use, of course I installed it on my computer and started playing with it. I started creating images for personal use about Anime, Manga, Videogames, Comics etc. and It was then when I decide to make an Deviant Account (AND PUT IT IN MY BIO SINCE DAY 1 THAT THE ART IS AI.) because I'm not trying to convince anybody that I draw my images. I have known this tool for 8 months and I know how it works, the tool does a PUBLIC image search to give you AN STYLE and put it in the results you need practically the same if I commissioned an artist and I say, for example..."I want a drawing of Superman in Jorge Jimenez style flying over Metropolis" the artist would do a Google search and start his work, well the AI does the same just in 3 seconds. Do I have empathy for the artists who work the AI use for reference? of course. But I thought the same as a designer when tools like Canva arrived, Wix became popular to create web pages and there are many many pages to create your logo easily, cheaply and quickly. When these tools arrived I thought that my career as a designer would be affected, but I only let it worry me for 5 minutes, then I got to work and now I have even used the tools for my clients, just yesterday I had to make templates for a client in Canva because he doesn't know how to use Photoshop. So, my final position is of course I empathize with the artists who are thinking that these tools are plagiarizing their work, they are not, AI are using their style and for better or worse the style cannot be patented. So these tools are not doing anything wrong. It feels horrible at first, I more sure know it! I am a graphic designer. But instead of using your strength to complain, use it to use the tools in your favor.Perdón por mi inglés pero soy mexicano y hablo español, si este argumento lo hubiera hecho en español siento que tendría más sentido haha.
