Description Nearly Headless Nick, a garter snake housed by Snake Discovery , was discovered with deep wounds to his face. It was speculated that the snake had been hit by s lawnmower' blades, resulting in one eye being sheered off, and the other swollen.

The snake was not expected to live long, but as the snake didn't die after a couple days, the young man who found him gave the snake to Emily of Snake Discovery, an educational program for teaching children the local reptiles of Wisconsin and Minnesota. Emily named him Nearly Headless Nick, after the Harry Potter character.

Caring for the snake for the next two years, Emily monitored his progress, taking special care to help Nick eat small mice, and aiding in the shedding process until Nick became stronger. And stronger he became, living through a second surgery to remove the swollen, blind eye that remained. Healthy and friendly, Nick gained the affection of his caregivers and Snake Discovery followers alike. Unfortunately, time came for him early, and Nick passed away peacefully. Still, he lived long past his prognosis, and he remains a shining example of never giving up hope, even if things look like they might fail.

The quote is one of my favorites, and I think the last line especially sums up Nick perfectly.

Even though snakes do get a bad rap nowadays, I wish that there were more snake characters in media that are more friendly.
