He is a wolf and deer hybrid. His mother was wolf, the pack killed her after had banished him. After that he had been living alone in the forest for a long time. His head is deformed and jaw bones are visible - he has deer's jaw and head of wolf. Front part of deer skull is only a mask that he put on.
