Description
After looking through my older art and feeling weird about how I modeled the original version of Spot, I decided to go back and revamp him in my newer style and actually give him arms haha. It feels so great seeing the transition from old to new and I think after this I'm definitely sticking to gradients with occasional hand drawn details over them. It's a tricky texture style for sure but well worth the smooth aesthetic in the end

Wow!! Did you use Cycles Render for this model? I have been meaning to learn gradients but I am not sure how to work with them still XD

I'm still using the regular Blender Render engine. One day I'll see if there's any benefit for me using Cycles with my toony style but for now Blender Render has suited my needs so far.
I sorta figured it out gradient texturing on my own a while back but the artist and game dev Minions Art really solidified the idea for me with their tutorials and art where they show the textures in the bottom corner of the image. Most of it seems to be just using a small strip of gradient and stretching the UVs up and down for shading and highlights.

Well, they both mean essentially the same thing. Half full half empty kind of deal.
