Amazing work, it is awesome. I was just wondering if you used any guidelines at all, such as a grid, or was it all done by freehand? Amazing work.

I draw a sketch first, which is layer after layer after layer of trying to make it look right. I don't use a grid generally, but I put the screenshot on the left, and my canvas the same size on the right, and sometimes just use my finger to draw across between the two roughly where the eyes should be, top of the nose, bottom of the nose, top of the lips, and I work from there. If that doesn't work, then I try using a grid, yeah.

Thank you for the information. I am trying to draw portraits myself, just starting off. They are turning out pretty bad. I want to stay with freehand and not use a grid. Perhaps I am still very young (18) compared to great artists like yourself. Although I am not saying that you are old. I will work extremely hard at portrait work from now on till the day I die. I might make the move to digital art. I like the way the digital paintings look. I still have a long way to go.

that is superb! (it is almost as if you did that option where you can change a photo to look like a painting,) wow awesome job!
when I caught a glimpse of it in my eye, I thought it was a photo! and then I looked and it was a painting AWESOME!

Haha thanks. Fortunately for me, I use Paintshop Pro and have no software that can make any photo look like a painting, and I upload progress worksheets of my work. (Unfortunately I didn't do one for this, but most of my art has them in the Prep folder.)

Hah it's nowhere near as clear as a screenshot, specially his clothes. Thanks though. I did reference it from a screenshot. I just loved the way he was looking up and his eyes were shiny so I drew it. And it's all blue-toned, which suits him. I'm waiting for a good red-toned scene with Arthur to come up so I can draw him too.
