Description Note on July 5: Seems I got a bit tired of drawing full bodies so I decided to start a little close up with heads and straying a little bit away from my usual manga drawings.

PS: Carnation is the name of the flower

I love that you didn't with the beads, make it more interesting. And the flower in the background is wonderfully detailed.

Though I think it would benefit you if you used darker shadow and more lighting, to induce the contrast. Also having some red on her face from the background, especially the bottom of her nose and her ear from the reflection of the red lips and the flower will make it a lot more realistic

thank you very much for the feedback...I am currently really struggling with dark tones, I mean I have difficulty to make things dark because I think I have a thing against shadows...lol...but I'll try to remedy with that in the future

I know the feeling, I used to (and still a bit am) struggling with this. The remedy is simple -  just do it xD

Practice makes perfect, so the best advice I can give is to just draw a bunch of painting you don't really care for, so you can drop shadow bombs on them without being afraid of ruining the painting. After learning to shade, incorporate also reflections of the surroundings

This is beautiful I like everything about this the red of the carnation flower and of the woman/girls lips, is magnificent. the hair looks so realistic it's black but I love the way you added the white for reflection and the pearls in her hair look real also. Also the gleam in her eyes is total perfection. This is a wonderful piece of art.

Oh thank you so much for the praises, I can also say this is my favourite amongst everything I did so far :3 ... I hand drew and coloured everything excepted for the pearls, I used Manga studio 5 to draw this and I used a pearl brush (a digital brush that draws pearl) so they looks real automatically...I'll be doing many more art of this kind

And oh, thanks for the fave

You're welcome, the praises were well earned, I've been debating forever in buying a wacom but if this is what they can make I'm totally going to start saving up for one, this is truly a work to be proud of, i can see why you like it so much. I like roses myself, my favorite flower of all time, of course I think all flowers look nice even sunflowers, I'm sure they can be just as lovely if I actually saw one other than on cloth patterns.

No problem on the favorite, thank you for the beautiful art, do you mind if I feature it on my Gallery Feature that I do in my journal every night around 7? I would love to see this picture get featured and looked at by my viewers and also people who visit my page

Of course please I don't mind the feature, thanks a lot ^^

well, I am rather using a HUION H610 pro tablet www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKYDLp…

I was also debating in my head about going digital or not but I made up my mind thanks to a good friend ^^. I am really stingy because this is just a hobby for now...so I decided to get a HUION h610 pro, it cost around 90$, which is really cheap compared to the medium wacom (necessary for a comfortable drawing).

I have the Huion since February and so far it hasn't failed me...though you have to carefully read the installation instruction.

Besides, tablets are only hardwares, they act like the mouse but you use the tablet pen, but you need to use a drawing programme/software as well...and that is what Manga Studio is my.smithmicro.com/manga-studio…

You can also use other drawing programmes like GIMP, SAI or Photoshop but I am not sure they have as much decorative materials as Manga studio does.

So the tablet isn't anything on it's own you have to purchase a software to work it with, I have Gimp thankfully it's free but I do my manips on my ipod apps

Nomena-ALRINA In reply to SashaHale [2015-07-08 20:50:39 +0000 UTC]

yes, the tablet isn't anything on it's own...but it makes really easy to draw on the computer.

I also have GIMP but it doesn't have as much decorative materials as manga studio, for example it doesn't have a pearl brush...but there are ways to make custom brushes on GIMP so that you import the image of a pearl and then transform it to a brush

www.youtube.com/watch?v=3D6rWr…

or you can also create your custom patterns www.youtube.com/watch?v=J22NUC…

though I tried all of these and I got a bugs on my computer so I had to delete and reinstall GIMP

If you feel like a little adventure with the tools, perhaps you will do better than me ^^ but I would definitely say manga studio (also known as clip studio paint pro) is better

PS: I saw in some shops that wacom tablet sometimes comes with a manga studio software licensed for 2 years, I do not know in your area though, but it's still expensive compared to buying a huion and the software separately ^^

The place is a bit overwhelmingly big...lol...still trying to get used to it and learning how it works, but excepted that, I am trying to focus on drawing and improving as much as possible

Nomena-ALRINA In reply to KageKnight48 [2015-07-06 08:43:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, we cannot get better if we do not think of improving first, and I am positive there is always a next challenge level to everything so it's important to always look up for more and more...unless of course we are fully satisfied and accept to stay at the level we are.

I was thinking of asking criticism here but I've already came a long way from other websites and realised that I am the one who is really hard on myself and too much self-criticizing...lol...I am bit stressed about learning by myself right now but eventually I'll ask for criticism.

KageKnight48 In reply to Nomena-ALRINA [2015-07-06 09:06:12 +0000 UTC]

Indeed, if you don't work hard, you won't improve, but it's also not good too push yourself too much.
Though there are others who find their artwork/level satisfactory and just leave it at that.
Oh well, different people, different ideals/goals.

And yeah, peoples own selves are usually hypothetically their worst enemy, when it comes to criticizing their work/selves.
Hopefully you won't get stressed out and burn yourself out, you can always ask for help. I'm sure there are a lot of people who would be willing to help you improve and such.

Thank you

I'll try not to overdo...lol...wish you have a good time drawing as well.

I see in your gallery that most of your art are in black and white...I'll be interested to do some art trade/collaboration and propose to clean and colour some of them if you are OK with it...but not now, I am not going to do any full body for a while.

You're welcome
Ah yeah, I'm not that good at colouring and I don't want to really ruin the piece by trying to colour it.
That would be great if we could do a collaboration/art trade someday, maybe in the near future?
So let's work hard and improve ourselves for our goals

Nomena-ALRINA In reply to KageKnight48 [2015-07-06 10:11:00 +0000 UTC]

Great! I'll let you know when I am ready then

Don't worry, I did horrible colouring a year ago and I am still learning right now...it takes time, and it's in a completely different level of skill to acquire, there is a theoretical part about colour theory to understand...I would advise to master black and white shading first, dealing with those two colours are less brain consuming.

I know some people who are able to colour marvellously but are not able to draw well.

PS: If you are scared of ruining the piece, you should use a glass window with a light bulb lighting from bellow and trace your art on another paper, then you can have as many practice piece as you want without ruining the original drawing (you can also get light box is you want but these are expensive, I just bought a picture frame (5 euros) and used the glass to trace my pictures, but now that I am doing digital art, I don't need to do that anymore )

KageKnight48 In reply to Nomena-ALRINA [2015-07-06 10:22:02 +0000 UTC]

Ah, thank you for the advice. I'll try practice my shading, then move up to colouring slowly.
Hopefully I'll be able to incorporate these in the near future

And yeah, I'll take your advice and trace it on the window/glass.
Hope it won't turn out too bad
