She's going up against a guy who's quirk is the ability to be able to touch someone and unfortunately regress them back to their toddler years. Vanessa has seen his quirk in action during the cavalry battle and she knows to not get into contact range with him, however during this one v one battle her target gets the upper hand and is able to make contact, ultimately regressing Vanessa back when she was 5. ALTHOUGH!! Vanessa doesn't lose the battle but gains an upper hand!! XD
