That's the Imperial seal of Japan, with the motif being the Chrysanthemum(Kiku in Japanese)flower. Though the cherry blossom (sakura, which happens to be fandoms choice of name for nyotalia Japan) is the non-official national flower, the golden Chrysantheum is the crest of the royal family.

It also doesn't hurt that the Netherlands is, um, a great newspaper delivery boy. I'd like flowers with my paper. Too bad that history descends nastily on those two. History keeps doing that. If anything Hetalia has made me more annoyed with history than ever. While loving it at the same time.

He's such a gentleman in that comicstrip. And yeah, there's so much in history you wish you could change. The thing about Hetalia is that there's no such thing as spoilers, but sometimes that makes things quite depressing because 'look! fluff! omg aren't they cute?' then you realise what's gonna happen later.;_;

Well, if it's the difference between getting a new, shiny picture of awesome with colors of ZOMG or an improvement on an already good picture, I'll take the new one to squee over. However, if you're just concentrating on improving your work, then go for the arm fix.
I kind of live for awful history, too. Couldn't write interesting stories if people didn't do horrible things

Sorry for the late reply! Gah, the picture I'm currently working on also has hand problems, so I think I'll leave this as it is until I understand basic anatomy. Which is not now.

The Netherlands hasn't got one yet. Himaruya released several possibilities for him, Denmark, and Norway, but he changes his mind on a whim.

The colors and textures are brilliant, as is the use of the chrysanthemum motif. Go nation symbols. I'm goggling over how lovely the rising sun and the flower and the colors are blended. You are right about the elbow, perhaps because you chose that difficult 3/4 position for the body it looks a little weird. However, the picture is insanely powerful, elbow or not. His expression is just so Kiku, and have I mentioned the use of color just on his face alone? Man, the light and shading under the hair is awesome. Serious, strong Kiku is wonderful.

Oh wow. It's not very often I get complimented that much! Thank you so much for your kind, wonderful words! The colouring for this picture pretty much painted itself compared to my other pics since usually, everything feels like an upwards climb. I guess I got lucky with this one! Yes, I think the elbow caused me so much trouble because of the angle I chose, you're exactly right. I also think the way I drew the folds on his uniform did not help very much.

Oh, he so does. Not that I don't like cute/fluffy/silly Kiku, but it's always nice to see the more serious side of Hetalia in general.
Now I'm trying to find picture refs that would actually figure out how much or how little of the elbow to show. After having tried to look at myself from the 3/4 angle without a mirror. Man am I dizzy, and I can't figure out why it's eating at me this much.
I'm thinking that the problem is that his arm suddenly flattens as it goes behind his body. Meh. Not sure. Shutting up now.

I think I figured it out, too, after finally finding a mirror. His upper arm should be visible along the line of his torso, connecting to his elbow. The body would never be able to block the full arm from that bloody 3/4 angle.
Oh otaku!Kiku, leading the way for pervy-fangirls. I'm a bigger fan of Hikkimori!Japan when it comes to hilarious, but that's sad too. Meh. Serious Kiku being serious for the win.
