Ok, just a few sketches and then it's back to homework/commissions/thatonecontestentry.Just got back from seeing How to Train Your Dragon. ADORABLE movie, easily one of the best to come out of Dreamworks. The relationship between Hiccup and Toothless is so....

So I had to do a few sketches to vent my adoration for the movie. Man, what I wouldn't give to animate Toothless...
used a reference for the flying Toothless.

Oh, wow. I absolutely adore that upper right sketch. It's so cute and relaxed and so...them. Pure companionship in the expressions. The coloring, expressions, and body language on all of them are great.

I love it! The movie is so good, but I read one of the books and it SUCKED. Everything was completely different! The movie was WAY better than the book, which a surprising turn from the usual book-way-better-than-the-movie thing.

Loved the movie, I couldn't help noticing as well that Tootless does look like Stitch' just with black scales instead of blue fur. What I wouldn't give to ride a Night Fury like him!

That's the very first thing that came to mind when I saw Hiccup on Toothless' head. Absolutely adorable!

I gotta say, looking back, I'm kinda surprised about the ending of the movie, at how dark it seemed to me. Just that one part (that I won't spoil for others) when he wakes up... man. I didn't expect THAT to come in a kid-oriented movie at all. Not that it was a bad thing though, I liked how it went that far. It wasn't all "happy-go-lucky", but it wasn't all bad news either.

I was surprised too, but it made the movie that much better, I think. They could have gone with the "Oh, everything's fine and dandy" sappy ending, but the ending they went with made it that much deeper and more touching.
