Description Part 6: [link]

Part 5! But this one is probably a bit... incomprehensible. That's what I get for doing a tutorial at 1 in the morning. But I promised I'd have it up tonight, and dammit I got it up!

As always, feel free to ask questions.

I have a question. I've completed Toothless (wings and all) except for the eyes. I am making mine out of polymer clay, since it is recommended and I have a skill with it, and my mom, being an artist is painting them.

So my question is, how did everybody attach the eyes???? I did not use the plastic stuffed animal eyes because in my first test run they broke off very easily. Did anyone make holes in the back and sew them on? Lemme know what ya did!

Just wondering how much you would charge to make one of these...?

I would be happy to make you one of these, the biggest cost would be the supplies, let me know if you are interested?

I would be interested if you were still willing to make one. What would be the cost of it?

I have never attached a safety eye to fabric, but I have attached one to knitted things.Do I just poke a hole on the fleece where the eye will go through? Will the hole get bigger and/or rip?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nooby-banana In reply to Tawny0wl [2012-07-05 22:42:04 +0000 UTC]

If you're using fleece then it should be fine to just cut a hole in the fabric. Fleece won't fray.

I'm a bit confused by the "backstitch the neck closed" part. I thought that normally you would have to hand sew gaps like that closed.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nooby-banana In reply to ApplesforAnna [2012-05-26 07:45:27 +0000 UTC]

That's what i mean by backstitch. It's a type of hand sewing stitch.

can you help me out with the eyes a little?
I use felt, cause I don't have clay (won't do any good either), but I have no clue on how big I should make them.,
you don't have something like a pattern for that right?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nooby-banana In reply to LovingRikkie [2011-09-08 22:26:48 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, no pattern for the eyes. Just wait for the head to be sewn, stuff it and then make a paper pattern. It's basically just trial and error to get the proper size and shape.

Ugh. I am having so much trouble with the head. Plus, I think I made it too small, and sewing it on is becoming a major pain.

Okay, my plush for Toothless is almost done, but I'm having a little trouble figuring out how to attach the head. On the pattern for the chin, there's this piece that flops out from behind the small horn, where we're supposed to machine sew. My question is that is the flap itself the seam allowance for attaching the head to the body?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nooby-banana In reply to DriftingWolf [2011-06-15 06:30:09 +0000 UTC]

Nope, add seam allowance around the flap like the rest of the chin piece.

How'd you get your eyes to stay on so nicely? I attached mine with safety eyes, but they still flop loosely on the head, even when I stuff it tight.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nooby-banana In reply to SoulOfSplendor [2011-06-01 23:46:45 +0000 UTC]

I hot glued the eyes to where I wanted them to stay after using the safety eyes. Sorry, I should've included that.

For the eyes, check out 's tutorial. It's super easy and you just use Sculpey and some doll eyes.

RIGHT, im nearly done my plushie after.. what.. weeks?
Its been tough but ive hit a bump in the road

I Cant get my Hands on any Poly Pellets (The shops sold out.. and im too impationt to wait! )
Some of my Family say that i could use dried rice to replace the pellets, but im not too sure... wont it go off..?
What do you think.. or should i ask the Store if they can order some in for me..?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nooby-banana In reply to Episkeeyy [2011-02-14 20:15:00 +0000 UTC]

I used dry rice to fill a plushie when I was little. After a while it started to smell a little like rice (not a bad smell at all, but it was a little odd). Other than that nothing really happened. If nothing else you can always order the poly pellets online, too.

When you're indenting the eyes, about how far apart should be eyes be once you tie them together? Thanks again for putting this up!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nooby-banana In reply to Cadebee [2011-01-11 02:01:34 +0000 UTC]

When they're tied together there should be about an eye's width between the eyes. So just measure how wide the eyes you made are, and then put that distance between them.

Gah, the head seems sooo hard to get together. i am handstitching this part. Will some of the horns be left alone while I connect the head to the rest of the body? It seems like the "spine" of the back, should line up with the spikes in the middle of the head -- which leads me to believe the horns need to be left alone a wee bit while sewing him up...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nooby-banana In reply to acefantasy [2010-12-09 23:11:49 +0000 UTC]

What do you mean by "left alone"?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

acefantasy In reply to nooby-banana [2010-12-10 03:09:40 +0000 UTC]

ah, nevermind, I hand stitched the head as best I could... I think I messed up on the prostetic tail fin though. I am a bit confused on that part...

Also, how much material do you think I would need to do the wings? When I started this poject I bought 2 yards, and now I am down to a 30" x 50" peice left, as well as a bunch of scraps... and that was due to me having to redo the head. ><

Hand sewing is fine, just make sure you use a strong stitch so it doesn't come apart.
