Some ShikaNeji because they are officially one of my OTP's.Watching the animeI never shipped them (never thought of it, actually) but then I found this amazing fanfiction 'Break to Breathe' - which you can find here: [link] - aaaand it was over for me.
But yeah, so here's my attempt at ShikaNeji. I'll do a proper picture of them one day.
Shikamaru and Neji belong to Masashi Kishimoto.

Tell me about it - I made a deviantArt account, e-mail account, and AFF account just for them, and had notebooks set aside for ShikaNeji doodles and writings... xD The obsession hits hard!

That's the fic that made me ship ShikaNeji as well! When I first found it I was so dubious, but afterward I was just like "OTP for always and ever no one is changing my mind". This is an adorable picture, I keep coming up with short little stories for how they reached this point.

If I ever produce one I like, I'll be sure to share it! ShikaNeji is a ship floating in a very shallow pool of fics, though I admit I am currently struggling with an 8K and counting one shot that was supposed to be porn and is decidedly NOT now.
I swear the only things I have left to read in the fandom are either hideously out of character stories (though I once read one where Neji was like, 18 and had no freaking clue what an erection was - it was so terrible I kept reading just to see if it could possibly get worse) and hate!fics (seriously Sakura/Hinata/Temari/Tenten bashing in my ShikaNeji fics makes me flee no matter how good they are otherwise).

Haha oh geez yeah I completely agree with you there, I was starving for ShikaNeji after reading this fanfic only there was nothing else left :/ Kind of upsetting when gosh they're totally right for each other haha. And I know! I hate any character bashing, it's so unnecessary? It's fine if you don't support or even agree with the ship but it's no reason to completely hate on any character based on their involvement with others, with no regard for their actual personality? I freaking love the girls, they're all awesome, just don't ship them with the main ships I guess.
And oh gosh really you're getting me all excited for this fic haha I hope you do end up liking this one and sharing it! You have to give me a link and everything if you do

Like I said, BtB was my first ShikaNeji, so I managed to furrow out a few more before I hit the bottom of the barrel. And I know, they are so good for one another - I mean, I like Temari (but am totally convinced Tenten's a lesbian) but not really with Shikamaru? I just feel it's too much of the 'men marry their mothers/women marry their fathers' sort of thing and IDK I just really like the contrast between Neji and Shikamaru, I think they're different enough to be interesting and similar enough to be complimentary. Plus it's hella hot.
Character bashing is, for me, a big no. I don't even bash characters I don't like (hello Danzo and Sasuke) in my own fics, it's not nice and it rarely serves a purpose other than petty meanness.
I will do that - I post all my ShikaNeji stuff on AO3 under the name 'AwayLaughing' so if you want you can follow me there! I don't post fanfic to DA, I just don't really like the way literature looks and reads on here. But yes, I can post a link to either fic once they're posted, no problem!

Absolutely, and every character has such depth to them too, it's such a waste when authors waste that by bashing them? They each have so much potential and could add so much to the story, it's sad :/ Haha and while yeah I have an incredible dislike for Danzo/ Hanzo the show wouldn't be the same without their input, right? They literally created the 'villains' in Itachi and Nagato. Wish people could play on that more than hating on them.

I hate Danzo so much, but I understand why he's so important and I'm like 87.6% he legit thinks everything he does is for the good of Konoha so i write him like a good guy who went crazy because of strain (and idk maybe syphilis? I don't put that in fics but it's my private theory for when people go off their rockers).

I'm glad you like it, EM, it's a lot of fun to write! I'm having trouble with this next part (flying lessons) but after that it is smooth sailing. I really can't wait until I have the Rookie 9 (+ Sai and Sabaku siblings) involved.
