This is evil. Pure evil, I swear. Children (at least those that are young enough for their food desicions to be swayed by silly McDonald's toys) can't decide to go to McDonald's for themselves. It's the parents that take them there. If the parents buy the kid too much unhealthy food or give in one too many times to the kid's whining about having a toy from McDonalds, it's not McDonald's fault.
The thing is though, it's not about actually promoting healthy living or anything, it's about people not taking responsibility, blaiming others, and taking away some of the most wonderful things in life because of it.
And of course, since obesity is a huge problem, but it's a problem that is controlled by individual choices, lack of self-control, health issues and the glamorization of large/unhealthy meals, (i.e. things that are hard to control) the government is scrambling to do SOMETHING to stop it and cast the blame on fast food restaraunts whenever they can. Forget blaming TV or actual people, no one is required to take responsibility for anything these days.

What I find it to be really sad is that New York is trying to banned large sodas now out of their states and what I said to my dad I said, "They have drug dealers and crooks roaming the streets, making their city less enjoyable for anyone to visit and yet here they are making a big fit over a damn drink size?" They're only targeting sodas but nothing else like Milk shakes margaritas.(They said that a glass of Margarita has more Calories than a soda.)

If someone wants to buy something that large, let them. Instead of banning large sodas, why not just encourage small-sized ones too? Catch phrases like "travel-size" and "Fun-Size" work for other products, why not sodas? Seriously government, focus on making America a land where we are free to pursue hapiness, not a land where we are forced to choose what others think will make us happy.

I feel like that's already happening. I remembered when I was in High School after they passed a law to replaced snack food with Health food, they got rid of the confession stand replaced it with a Sub sandwich station, I used it a few times and I hated it because of the people in the line I had to put up with and most of kid just left the building to get McDonald's or pizza.

If people want junk food, we should give them what they want. Besides most "healthy food to replace junk food" is worse for you than most of the "Junk food" ever was, especially at institutions like school where they can't afford any real/organic/goodness anyway, and they offer uber-greasy-super-gross salad dressing to put on your chemically-enhanced leaves that's WAY fattier than your average hamburger.
So I get that its a good idea to PROMOTE healthy eating, but that dosn't mean you should take away the treats from everyone, including responsible eaters. It's like punishing the whole class because one kid got an "F". It's sad and stupid.
(Unfortunately the example about the F HAS happened to me before. It's not MY fault some people fail. Peer pressure, my butt, it's not my fault.)

Actually, I read that you're better off buying fruits and veggies grown by real farmers than those that are not thanks to the chemicals they used to kill the bugs off of them. The problem is that restaurants have a hard understanding that not everyone likes to eat like a pig. What they should do is,they should teach people that it's okay to eat snack food as long as they don't pig out on it all at once like carefully pour out a small amount into a bowl or something.

Yup. That's the best way to do it. Too bad not very many people get that. I love healthy food. But snack food is fun once and awhile.

They claimed that it "Encourages" kids to eat more junk food just to get the toys when in the reality it's lousy parenting that's doing it. Heck, a week or two ago, I bought all of MLP toys and I didn't have to buy a lot happy meals to get it. I done before that with Neopets toys.

LOLWHUT? Happy meal toys =/= childhood obesity. Too much processed shit, not enough healthy stuff, and lack of exercise do. I'm not talking about the kids who have some sort of medical problem that can lead to weight problems, though.

I know what you're saying and it is a bunch of bull that they're doing this to the kids since it's the parents' faults that they choose to over feed their kids rather than feeding them right.

gethsemane-butler In reply to Nookslider [2010-04-29 06:49:52 +0000 UTC]
Exactly. Why punish the restaurant? Is it twisting the arms of the parents to take their kids there? No. In fact, at least they offer healthy alternatives, like yogurt and some fruit, which is probably more than what the parents could say they offer their kids. Ignorance is not an excuse, especially when it comes to the health of your children. Eating healthy really isn't as hard as people make it out to be. Hell, even replacing soda with water can help you lose 10 lbs in a year. I'm not saying that it's bad to eat at fast food restaurants every once in a while, but you eat there every day, yeah, you will get fat.
Seriously, it's shit like this that makes me ashamed to be a part of the same species.
