Description

2023: This year was difficult for health and art. Lots of ups and down for me, and it's become really hard to do art, my artistic confidence has been pretty low. I didn't finish a lot of pieces, but I did get to be in another zine which was nice. I really hope next year I can get more art done and return to the productivity level I had a couple years ago. I'd also like to do more traditional art soon~ Sometimes switching mediums helps to bring inspiration back. We shall see!

2022: This was a hard year both artistically and personally. In the spring I had a difficult medical situation, and at the same time I lost access to student Photoshop (my primary art tool since 2009) and have been trying to use different art programs since to mild success. In late summer-early fall my family's cats passed away a month apart, both of whom we had for over a decade. Sadly I didn't finish more comic pages either, and didn't finish a whole lot of art in general. I did get halfway through a Drawtober challenge, and was in a zine for the first time which was cool. I hope next year is better, and that I can finish more art than this year.

2021: This year had a lot of ups and downs for me; grief, new health diagnosis, new dog who I'm obsessed with, huge art block, family health problems, made friends at uni for the first time in years, it's just been so emotionally up and down. I think my art is continuing to improve, but I didn't make as much of it this year. But I like the work that I made, so that's good. I realized earlier this year that I'd like to go into picture book illustration once I'm done with my current art history degree, so I'm looking forward to taking steps towards that in the new year.

2020: 2020...so much one could say about this year...but all I'll say is that I'm grateful I was still able to make art (even though it was hard to find the motivation/inspiration at times). I think I continued to improve, and I'm proud of what I accomplished! Thank you to everyone who continues to view and support my artwork, I really appreciate it! Here's to more art (and comic pages!!) in the new year!

2019: I'm really proud of my art this year! I did lots of scenic illustrations and kept experimenting with new techniques. I think my animal/creature art has grown a lot, and has overall come a long way since 2017. I also did lots of comic art, and I'm so glad I finally started my comic Ghosts in the Backyard. Next year I want to keep playing with different styles and brushes, and perhaps do more traditional painting too. It's amazing to see a whole decade compiled like this...my art has changed so much, and I look forward to seeing what happens next~

2018: My art output has boomed this year! This has been my year of background art. I keep trying to push myself to paint landscapes that have a lot of detail in them, aka forests, and fields of flowers. I've also been trying to put more mood and atmosphere into my work.

And as always I keep experimenting with styles, from realistic painty ones to cartoony lineless ones, and lots inbetween.

This marks ten years of improvement. Ten years posting to deviantART.

When I look at 2008, and look at my art now...I feel so proud. All of that hard work. It's moving to see it all in one timeline.

2017: Another year added to the improvement meme...this one was tough in terms of visual art. I did a lot of writing this year, and found it hard to power through many drawings. But this resulted in a lot of experimentation, such as using clay, pastels, coloured pencils, and more environmental studies. My art feels like it's hitting another puberty, it's not sure what direction it wants to go in. Joining ARPGs is helping with giving me some inspiration and focus.

2016: This year I've spent a lot of time building up my anatomy, colour, and composition skills through figure and life drawing. Studying art of the past has been a huge help as well! I think I've really pushed myself to improve, and I'm very proud of the year's accomplishments. : )

2015: Yay, improvement meme time! This year has really been about refining my skills and trying to target my weak spots. I've been trying to do more pictures with multiple characters, paying closer attention to anatomy/proportions, and adding detail. On the flip side, I've also been practicing more simple styles like lineless art. Also I think, compared to 2014, one of the changes is a stronger understand of colour/shading.

2014: It's that time of year again, time to reflect on my improvement. I'm really happy with all of the progress I've made in the past few months, especially when it comes to anatomy. As always, I've been trying out new styles along the way, and trying to get a grasp on composition and adding scenery and landscapes. I'd really like to branch out into more comic work and posting more original characters and stories.

2013: Thought it was time to add this year! I've definitely become even more adventurous with trying new art styles. In general I think my faces and anatomy have improved. And a bit of colouring too! FORWARD!

Wow, I have come a long way. The old art is from , if you'd like to take a peek at all the old pieces who didn't make the cut.

I think my biggest leap was in 2010--there are literally pages of that year in my old gallery, I drew SO. MUCH. @_@ I drew every day, and tried really hard to get used to a tablet.
