Too bad we can't see the 640s-era FPA ship which was used to first repel the Imperials. Very nice designs.

Those ships look remarkably similar to the modern FPA battleships though.

Always wondered how the people of Heinessen managed, though. Even taking into account that Heinessen was likely ecologically as perfect as they could want and rich in ressources, we're still talking 160,000 people. And they had between 527 and 640 to build up.
And yet they managed to field a large enough fleet to repulse the Imperial Fleet. I mean, Lin Pao and Yusuf Topalour were geniuses faced with a man given the command because he's a noble, but... you'd still need to build up your population, your factories, build shipyards...
Its a mystery. Unless they used cloning back then.

One explanation could be that the Imperial fleet was THAT incompetent and complacent. You had generals with huge brass awards yet without the experience of a veteran soldier. Their accolades were purely academic with no real achievement outside of minor skirmishes between noble families, and maybe the occasional pirate conflict.
On the other hand, the Free Planets Alliance was really a frontier nation based on democratic principles. They had to carve out their own living on uncultivated land. They also had a highly motivated population to establish their own national identity away from the empire.
So you have a talented, driven force against a complacent, inexperienced (and likely incompetent) adversary when both fleets clashed at the beginning. This allows lesser numbers to outmaneuver the bloated ones.

There was a written account of the Battle of Dagon Starzone in 640. I think they likely say how many ships there were on each side.
Of course, its in Japanese... O_o

There is one step between these, the Santa-Isabel, but I didn't have space to represent it.
