Description EDIT: Updated his design once again!

I can't believe it either, but I finally got around to making some proper reference sheets! I seized the opportunity and redesigned my alter ego Bràthair because the old one just wasn't working for me anymore (details of the face often got lost because it was fairly dark in comparison to the rest) - I'm really happy with the outcome. The old one can be seen here: fav.me/dbgsk0t
I hope to put together some proper bios eventually, but for now I'll just dump shortfacts and personality here!

Bràthair

Wolverine
male
3 years
40cm (shoulder height)
·
Introverted, fairly territorial, tends to keep friendships very casual, enjoys being alone and spending time pondering over his life and the world around him, private, aware, somewhat manipulative, follows a “live and let live” mentality, procrastinator, stubborn, adaptable, defensive, cautious, slight possessive streak (not of people but objects and intangible concepts such as places and memories)

Wolverine is not a very popular animal (I don't understand why!) so I wasn't really surprised to see there's not much artwork with them.

But then I found this wonderful piece and I was stunned! This is so well done, I'm not sure if I ever saw a picture of wolverine with such good anatomy.

Beautiful design, I especially like the light stripe of fur on his forehead.

Thank you! I always love seeing wolverine artwork too, it's a shame not many people seem to like them!

Exactly! I still consider changing my fursona for a wolverine, but I didn't change my white wolf for 8 years by now, it kinda feels like a betrayal, hah!

And I also have to get better at drawing them before I do that. But I definitely want to learn. ^^ I see you draw wolves very often too, do you have some tips for me on differences between drawing wolves and wolverines? It seems to me that my wolverines look more like wolves than actuall mustelids.

There's no shame in changing your fursona, but I know how you feel - when I first made the change from a cat I had for years to my wolverine fursona now, it certainly felt weird at first! And nowadays I'm considering creating somewhat of a secondary fursona/ representation of myself as a pine marten because the overall vibes of martens fit my personality better

I think the wolverine you posted recently looks very mustelid-like already! Whenever people struggle with drawing wolverines, the main things are that they make the legs too long and thin (which you don't, so good job!) and making the ears too pointy and too far up on top of the head. Just placing the ears further down along the side of the head and making them rounded works wonders!
Mustelids in general always tend to have larger, broader paws and shorter snouts, so those are two things to look out for too. And when in doubt, don't hesitate to look at tons of reference pictures! After all, you won't be able to draw something perfectly if you haven't taken enough time to really look at it ^^
I hope this helps you out!

Awww pine martens are cute. It's hard to believe they are related to big, muscular wolverines!

I also thought about making the wolverine only a secondary fursona. I'll see how it turns out for me. ^^

Thank you! I did notice that their ears are veeery small and kinda flat. I'll definitely try it out!

Yes, I already downloaded plenty of photos to look at, I'd be lost without a reference. I'm not used to draw anything else beside wolfs and lions, so mustelids are a challenge. But an enjoyable one!

Thank you once again for your advices and your time!
