| Chapter One: A Mother's Resolve |

Athena's early life was marked by both the beauty and the harsh realities of the world she was born into. She came into this world as a part of a pride, born to Jupiter and Metis in the lush lands not far from Massilia. However, her arrival was shrouded in uncertainty and danger, as her father Jupiter was captured by hunters shortly after her birth.

As the rest of the pride, concerned about the threat of humans, moved on from the area, Metis chose to stay behind, determined to wait for Jupiter's return. She hoped for the reunion of her family, but the challenges she faced were immense. Athena's birth had been particularly rough, resulting in the loss of one of her siblings during the delivery. Despite her weakened state, Metis did her best to provide for her cubs during their first three months of life. She lovingly named them Athena, Hercules, and Artemis.

Metis, aware of the dangers that lay ahead, had heard rumors of the Empires, safe havens for cubs like hers. She decided to embark on a perilous journey to find one of these Empires where her cubs might have a chance at survival. She scouted the region, eventually discovering the Shadow Empire. She knew that this was the best chance for her cubs' future.

With determination in her heart, she returned to the den where she had hidden her precious cubs, ready to take them to the safety of the Shadow Empire. However, upon her return, she was met with an empty den, and panic surged through her. Her heart sank, but she refused to give up. Frantically searching, she eventually found Athena, who had managed to hide from the hunters but was now alone and frightened.

Metis, her strength waning, broke the heartbreaking news to Athena that she could no longer care for her. Athena, confused and tearful, begged her mother to stay, but Metis knew she couldn't. With her final reserves of strength, she carried Athena to the Shadow Empire, leaving her there with a heavy heart. Athena, desperate to be with her mother, tried to follow her as she left, but it was a futile pursuit.

It was at this point that Aidren, a compassionate Gladiator from the Shadow Empire, heard Athena's cries. She took the little lion cub under her wing and brought her back to the Empire, where Athena officially became a member of the cub community, beginning a new chapter in her life filled with the support and care she desperately needed.

Chara was starting to feel very strongly about Basilisk, which is why she reacted the way she did when she heard he kissed her. Her golden face turned a bright red, her blue eyes wide as she stared at Pluto. “W-what?!” She choked out. She caught on quickly when she saw the look in her best friend’s eyes. That teasing look. Chara let out a loud huff, shoving her. “You are such a brat, Pluto! Basilisk would never do something do devious! He is a gentleman!” The lioness winced slightly when she shoved the lynx, but laughed nonetheless. “You and your teasing. I’m going to get back at both you and Phoenix one of these days! Teasing a poor grandmother like myself while she is passed out. Have you no shame!” She said playfully. Chara was still very young, but she loved the fact that she was a grandmother. Always throwing how she was so much ‘older’ than Pluto. If Chara was honest, she was a little nervous when Basilisk came. They had been best friends when they were cubs, and yet they were still so new to each other. She was honestly worried Pluto would feel left out, since she and the tiger went so far back in their lives. But she was very pleasantly surprised when Pluto was so welcoming towards him. Well, as warm as she could be. Her best friend seemed to be rather protective over the lioness, though Chara couldn’t blame her. After all they had been through, Chara was the same way with the lynx. She would rip anyone apart if she knew they harmed Pluto. In fact, Chara wanted to go down to the city and give them all a piece of her mind for what they have done. But alas, she could not give them that scolding. While it was mainly a joke in Chara’s mind, it still terrified her to great lengths even thinking about going to the city.

As the air of the mood started to change with Chara’s confession, the lioness watched her best friends eyes begin to mist from the tears. Her chest ached. For a moment, Chara started to rethink her decision. She wasn’t ready. She wasn’t ready to step down. They needed her. She had to be there for them. She wasn’t ready. She couldn’t leave them like this. Right before winter. It was cruel. They would hate her even more. Call her selfish for leaving them. Stepping down would cause even more hate. She couldn’t do it. They would hate her. Hate her so much. Chara’s breathing began to pick up as the thoughts rushed in her mind. Was she ready? Was she truly ready? She watched as Pluto held back tears, and chose not to hold hers back. Tears began to drip down her scarred face. “I’m not.” She whispered, her voice cracking. “I’m not ready to step down. I’m so terrified to step down Pluto. What if they think I’ve just left them? What if they hate me for stepping down right before winter? They already hate me.” It was always a thought in her head. Though there were still some that disliked Chara, most of the Empire was okay with her now. But in Chara’s head, they still all hated her. She had worked so hard for them. So hard for them to trust in her.

“I’m not ready to just leave. To step down. I’ve been Leader for so long. I love being Leader. It something I never truly saw myself doing. I never thought…When I first joined, I never thought I would come this far. Never thought I would bring Ice to where we are today. I love everything I do here. Between the new ranks we built, to the way we’ve built our camp. I helped shape Ice Empire into a sanctuary. A haven to those who need it. A place where you aren’t judge. I am proud of what I built Ice into, with the help of my Silvers and my gladiators. I know I messed up. But I am still so proud of Ice Empire. And I am not ready to just leave that. To stop.” Chara had full tears pouring down her face, as she spoke about her pride in Ice.

“But,” Chara shuddered. “I…I want to watch my cubs grow. Watch my nieces grow. I enjoy being leader. I enjoy having apprentices rank up. I enjoy so much. But I want…to retire in a way. I’ll still hunt, still fight for my Empire. But I want to…I want to go back to my passion.” Chara sighed softly. “It is no secret that I love cubs. I have adopted and fostered so many. And I miss it. I miss watching them take their first steps. Open their eyes for the first time. Witness their first words. I missed so much of my cub’s firsts. I barely saw Kraken walk for the first time. I briefly heard Enfield’s first words. I missed Amaroq’s eyes opening. I want to back to…caring for cubs. When we allowed den parents to be a rank, I wanted so badly to be one. Take care of cubs. Foster babies without parents. I want to do that, Pluto. I want to be a den mother.” She explained, her voice husky with tears. At Pluto’s comment about taking orders, Chara chuckled threw her tears. “You think you’ll get away from my orders so easily Pluto? You’ll always be my silver. I’ll still be ordering you around, even as a den mother. I’ll mother hen you until the day you die.” She said playfully, her blue eyes dancing with tears, sadness and slight joy. It was true. Chara would always be there to boss Pluto around, even if she wasn’t leader anymore. She would still be there to cause Pluto a headache. “You can’t get rid of me that easily.”

| Chapter One: A Mother's Resolve |

Athena's early life was marked by both the beauty and the harsh realities of the world she was born into. She came into this world as a part of a pride, born to Jupiter and Metis in the lush lands not far from Massilia. However, her arrival was shrouded in uncertainty and danger, as her father Jupiter was captured by hunters shortly after her birth.

As the rest of the pride, concerned about the threat of humans, moved on from the area, Metis chose to stay behind, determined to wait for Jupiter's return. She hoped for the reunion of her family, but the challenges she faced were immense. Athena's birth had been particularly rough, resulting in the loss of one of her siblings during the delivery. Despite her weakened state, Metis did her best to provide for her cubs during their first three months of life. She lovingly named them Athena, Hercules, and Artemis.

Metis, aware of the dangers that lay ahead, had heard rumors of the Empires, safe havens for cubs like hers. She decided to embark on a perilous journey to find one of these Empires where her cubs might have a chance at survival. She scouted the region, eventually discovering the Shadow Empire. She knew that this was the best chance for her cubs' future.

With determination in her heart, she returned to the den where she had hidden her precious cubs, ready to take them to the safety of the Shadow Empire. However, upon her return, she was met with an empty den, and panic surged through her. Her heart sank, but she refused to give up. Frantically searching, she eventually found Athena, who had managed to hide from the hunters but was now alone and frightened.

Metis, her strength waning, broke the heartbreaking news to Athena that she could no longer care for her. Athena, confused and tearful, begged her mother to stay, but Metis knew she couldn't. With her final reserves of strength, she carried Athena to the Shadow Empire, leaving her there with a heavy heart. Athena, desperate to be with her mother, tried to follow her as she left, but it was a futile pursuit.

It was at this point that Aidren, a compassionate Gladiator from the Shadow Empire, heard Athena's cries. She took the little lion cub under her wing and brought her back to the Empire, where Athena officially became a member of the cub community, beginning a new chapter in her life filled with the support and care she desperately needed.

Chara rolled her eyes slightly at Pluto as she made her teasing sounds. If Chara was honest, she hadn’t felt this way about a male since Meso. Which had been a while. Chara was starting to feel very strongly about Basilisk, which is why she reacted the way she did when she heard he kissed her. Her golden face turned a bright red, her blue eyes wide as she stared at Pluto. “W-what?!” She choked out. She caught on quickly when she saw the look in her best friend’s eyes. That teasing look. Chara let out a loud huff, shoving her. “You are such a brat, Pluto! Basilisk would never do something do devious! He is a gentleman!” The lioness winced slightly when she shoved the lynx, but laughed nonetheless. “You and your teasing. I’m going to get back at both you and Phoenix one of these days! Teasing a poor grandmother like myself while she is passed out. Have you no shame!” She said playfully. Chara was still very young, but she loved the fact that she was a grandmother. Always throwing how she was so much ‘older’ than Pluto. If Chara was honest, she was a little nervous when Basilisk came. They had been best friends when they were cubs, and yet they were still so new to each other. She was honestly worried Pluto would feel left out, since she and the tiger went so far back in their lives. But she was very pleasantly surprised when Pluto was so welcoming towards him. Well, as warm as she could be. Her best friend seemed to be rather protective over the lioness, though Chara couldn’t blame her. After all they had been through, Chara was the same way with the lynx. She would rip anyone apart if she knew they harmed Pluto. In fact, Chara wanted to go down to the city and give them all a piece of her mind for what they have done. But alas, she could not give them that scolding. While it was mainly a joke in Chara’s mind, it still terrified her to great lengths even thinking about going to the city.

As the air of the mood started to change with Chara’s confession, the lioness watched her best friends eyes begin to mist from the tears. Her chest ached. For a moment, Chara started to rethink her decision. She wasn’t ready. She wasn’t ready to step down. They needed her. She had to be there for them. She wasn’t ready. She couldn’t leave them like this. Right before winter. It was cruel. They would hate her even more. Call her selfish for leaving them. Stepping down would cause even more hate. She couldn’t do it. They would hate her. Hate her so much. Chara’s breathing began to pick up as the thoughts rushed in her mind. Was she ready? Was she truly ready? She watched as Pluto held back tears, and chose not to hold hers back. Tears began to drip down her scarred face. “I’m not.” She whispered, her voice cracking. “I’m not ready to step down. I’m so terrified to step down Pluto. What if they think I’ve just left them? What if they hate me for stepping down right before winter? They already hate me.” It was always a thought in her head. Though there were still some that disliked Chara, most of the Empire was okay with her now. But in Chara’s head, they still all hated her. She had worked so hard for them. So hard for them to trust in her.

“I’m not ready to just leave. To step down. I’ve been Leader for so long. I love being Leader. It something I never truly saw myself doing. I never thought…When I first joined, I never thought I would come this far. Never thought I would bring Ice to where we are today. I love everything I do here. Between the new ranks we built, to the way we’ve built our camp. I helped shape Ice Empire into a sanctuary. A haven to those who need it. A place where you aren’t judge. I am proud of what I built Ice into, with the help of my Silvers and my gladiators. I know I messed up. But I am still so proud of Ice Empire. And I am not ready to just leave that. To stop.” Chara had full tears pouring down her face, as she spoke about her pride in Ice.

“But,” Chara shuddered. “I…I want to watch my cubs grow. Watch my nieces grow. I enjoy being leader. I enjoy having apprentices rank up. I enjoy so much. But I want…to retire in a way. I’ll still hunt, still fight for my Empire. But I want to…I want to go back to my passion.” Chara sighed softly. “It is no secret that I love cubs. I have adopted and fostered so many. And I miss it. I miss watching them take their first steps. Open their eyes for the first time. Witness their first words. I missed so much of my cub’s firsts. I barely saw Kraken walk for the first time. I briefly heard Enfield’s first words. I missed Amaroq’s eyes opening. I want to back to…caring for cubs. When we allowed den parents to be a rank, I wanted so badly to be one. Take care of cubs. Foster babies without parents. I want to do that, Pluto. I want to be a den mother.” She explained, her voice husky with tears. At Pluto’s comment about taking orders, Chara chuckled threw her tears. “You think you’ll get away from my orders so easily Pluto? You’ll always be my silver. I’ll still be ordering you around, even as a den mother. I’ll mother hen you until the day you die.” She said playfully, her blue eyes dancing with tears, sadness and slight joy. It was true. Chara would always be there to boss Pluto around, even if she wasn’t leader anymore. She would still be there to cause Pluto a headache. “You can’t get rid of me that easily.”
