Description Ursus spelaeus, the cave bear lived during the last ice age and died out 24000 years ago. It was 520-990lbs. It was also about 52.75 inches tall at shoulder and 6.8-9.8 feet long from head to tail. They lived in Europe, the Middle East and north Western Asia. Humans did encounter them and did hunt them. The were closest related to the brown bear and the polar bear
