Description

Along a highway, busy with moving traffic and impatient people, was a small patch of land. It had once been an isolated wilderness spot, populated with only plants and greenery. Here, a creature lay dormant just out of sight, below the ground. The creature had laid asleep for just under 200 years, but it was none the wiser, believing only a decade had passed in it’s slumber. It was once a tall creature that guarded its planet from any visitors who thought of interfering. It towered over any tree and any animal, and often did things run. I̶t̶ He never minded it. He didn’t like interacting with them anyway. He found the stories they told, and interestingly enough, threats, to their young and each other rather amusing. Now, however, he lay in a field, weak and unnoticed. His once impressive height had been reduced to little over six feet, and everything came delayed to his senses.
He felt himself regaining consciousness, groggy and tired. He felt like if he moved, he would snap apart, falling into a million pieces. He debated not moving at all, in his earthly burrow. Instead to lie dormant, possibly for another decade or so. He couldn’t though, he knew it. He finally shifted, and the ache that ricocheted in his core made him silently swear to never do this again. If he had only been asleep for a decade and felt this awful, then he sure didn’t want to experience this again, and he couldn’t imagine what it would feel like if it were after a longer break. He pushed himself up, or, at least he tried. He was stuck with dirt, rocks, and roots surrounding every inch around him. ' Mounds don’t form this quickly, not in a single decade... ' He noted. Has someone buried him? Had something collapsed on him? He was expecting grass, yes, but not an entire heap of dust and rock. He mulled it over in his head for a moment. He didn’t like that, and in no way did it help the fact that he felt like he had just been drained of almost everything in him. He really thought for a moment about just going back into dormancy, and dealing with this later.
Then it hit him.
Something was on his planet. Something unwelcome… A surge of panic that morphed into rage coursed through him. He no longer cared about the aches and his weak state. How dare they intrude here! He dug and squirmed for what felt like way too long until a sharp talon broke through the Earth, letting the full moon’s light pour in his cubby. He pulled himself out, clawing the dirt, rock, and roots without care for the fatigue that hit every joint. No, he wasn’t angry, he was furious and full of burning hatred. He was ready to tear the offending demon limb from limb and personally throw them into the depths of Hell, no matter their intentions...
