Description The scout.
Fast, maneuverable, light to no armor, two guns and a cannon/missile hard points.
And a lot of attitude.

It was the first of the new generation of biometal ships and it's still in use now, half because it's good at what it does, half because human bureaucracy is a frightening thing when it comes to proposing new ideas.

Still, it's a tough little bugger, and it appears it's here to stay.

Not quite as fast or as well-armed as its predecessor, but this one can fly...or it could until the "hand of god" introduced the 1.3 patch.

Very nice work. She looks pretty in HD.

Thank you very much, very appreciated.
I'll have to add some dirt textures on it for the great unveiling, it's too clean at the moment.

Indeed, that would be quite fitting. However, I always viewed the ISDF as a very well-trimmed force compared the the rag-tag, rough n' ready NSDF and CCA armies. Perhaps the clean look is more fitting for them, eh? Still, I look forward to the final product.

By the way, I'm Axial on BZU. Battlezone fan and player since 1998.

Oh, hey! I've been reading your posts lately about your vision of a more realistic BZ. Pretty clear view you have there.
I agree that the ISDF is a bit more 'well-trimmed' but those are parade clothes. When you fight in the marshes and volcanic ash and keep bumping into buildings and enemy soldiers, I'm sure it'll take its toll on the hull, even if just aesthetically. And it looks more believable with some dirt and grime on.
Not to mention in far away, forgotten outposts overrun by the enemy, washing your 'baby' is the last thing on your mind.

Yes, but if you ever do a set of NSDF or CCA vehicles, the visual distinction is useful. A "Dunes" dust-covered Thunderbolt does actually look pretty good though.

That UDK BZ3 project and the 1.3 CP got me thinking again. Why do we always make mods that push even further into the future of Battlezone? Why don't we explore its past a bit more? I don't want to sound haughty, but this whole "Aenean" thing is just...no. Battlezone is not supposed to be about the aliens. It's about humanity and its responsibility with superweapons. The only aliens are the Cthonians. Even the Scions are not aliens.

There are always dangers when approaching a story. I've seen way too many nazi based ones out there, be it vampires, werewolves, aliens, vampire-aliens, demons, etc. And then there's the matter of motivation, drive. What drives a certain man, a certain race to do something. A good story has to have background and have more substance than 'it sounds good, let's put that in as well'.
It's not easy to illustrate the motivations of another person, yet alone an alien race that (should) has a different view of the world. Maybe it's easier with a more animal race, like in FleshStorm. They have more basic needs, no subterfuge, just eat, sleep, multiply.
Then we have alien races based on a single idea (assimilation of everything around them, destruction of other sentient life before it destroys you, etc)based on one human emotion rather than try and illustrate the complexities of the human mind.
We change, we evolve, our reasons today might not be the same as yesterday. I won't even go into the slightly mentally deranged minds.
So maybe we project our fears and inadequacies on something we don't identify with, so it's easier to overcome (and kill). Easier than to think that we are the monsters, don't you think?
Ok, that's enough rambling.

I like to see a dirty, gritty BattleZone like the Forgotten Enemies CP was. The perspective of the every day soldier. He doesn't know anything, he just does what he's told and tries to survive another day. No grand scheme, no higher purpose. For the grunt in the scout getting shot at, all that is trivial compared to the throbbing temples and the rat-tat-tat of the machine guns, nothing glorious about that. Of course, that would suck as a game because everybody wants to be the hero, do amazing things, single handedly conquer civilizations and rule over lesser beings. It massages the ego.

Well, unlike those Nazi stories, bio-metal did indeed start with the Third Reich discovering it. It's already a part of the story, so I'd like to explore that a bit more. I just got a new printer/scanner, so when I have at least three Truman-era three-views done, I'm going to start posting them up.

As for the story, yes. But groups of humans can be just as alien to each other as an actual extra terrestrial. Here in the United States, many don't understand anything beyond their borders. Hispanics, Chinese, and Russians are all very alien to most. If the game takes advantage of the language and cultural barriers, it completes that disconnect for the player. Having the player set as an ordinary soldier emphasizes it since they don't know the intentions of the enemy or the intentions of their commanders. I do like that type of story.

True about the nazi, I was just a bit frustrated after reading the n'th story about the evil germans.
You make a nice point about humans.
Maybe in the next big game we'll get to see that. But I still say it's easier to portray the bad guys as monsters or aliens that other humans. Even if the average gamer is not going to identify with him, it helps with the censorship issues and all that.

What's this about censorship? I don't believe in censoring anything. I believe it is up to parents and individuals to decide what they do and don't want to see.

I wonder if Activision would consider a Battlezone reboot if a team with something to show approached them about it.

Indeed. Love the game, although I don't play it as much as I did a couple of years ago. Priorities change, but the original emotion is still there.

glad you like it and that I found another BZer on DA.
Although my multiplayer skills are not quite there since I always had a lowsy internet connection and a huge ping, I played through the campaign and the FE one a few times.
First game I finished.

Cheers and have fun!
